Default Where to get bearings...Neu 1515/2.5D/F

OK, so where do I get these? From Steve? Boca Bearings? Anyone else?

This motor is soooooo easy to tear down. I think I'll purchase at least 10 bearings and keep them in stock.

You must have a newer version Alan as mine were non-flanged 11x4x5mm on the 1515/2.5D/H - those 13mm flanged Boca bearings you link to are used in the 1910/1y/h (but not /f !).

I agree they're pretty darned easy to tear down - I've had my 1910/1y/h down twice now and it's worked well with the Boca bearings you refer to. I'd like to keep a reference list of which bearings go with which motor if you get any more experience

So far its 13x4x5-F for the 1910/1y/h and for your newer 1515/2.5d/h and 11x4x5 non-flanged for the earlier 1515 motors

The rear bearing is a 5 X 16 X 5 non flanged.

Yes, the build date on this motor was 11/07. Sounds like I've found the correct bearing.

Wesley was signed in so I'll try again....

FYI, I asked this question in the Neu motor forum on RCGroups......Steve came and went today and didn't bother to answer.

I guess I'm supposed to send it in and wait somewhere between a month and 4 months to get it repaired.

I thought you were running a new D/H? Is there a bearing problem already?

Yes, Houston....We have a problem. Wesley had about 65-70 flights on the motor when the top bearing got noisy. Better to repair than let it go out and ruin a motor. Ordered the bearings today from Boca Bearings.

So this is a later version of the 1515/2.5d/f (no fan) correct that has the same bearings as the 1910/1y/h (fan)?

I would like to check my bearing but pulling the motor apart to do that sounds scary. I wish there was an easy way to check the bearing.

You mentioned in another thread that it is easy to pull the motor apart but easy for some might be impossible for others. What tools and procedure did you use? Regardless I doubt I would feel comfortable doing it but just curious how hard it was.

It will be interesting to see how long the boca bearings last.

Yes, this is a new motor. Build date was 11/07.

To check my bearing, I took the motor out and held it in my hand and spooled it up to a very slow speed. You could feel and hear it. I also had the bolts and washers screwed into the end (Not too far!) and the washers started vibrating like crazy!

John has a video of tearing down a 1910 motor, it's the same procedure. Here's the link:
http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...ename=1910.wmv

The tear down is super easy. You take a micro torch and heat the end cap where it's glued on. This loosens up the glue. Then take a small chisel (I used a small prybay that was sharp) and a hammer.....gently knock the end plate off. In all honesty it took about 2 minutes. Just be careful not lose any of the spacers or washers.

I ordered the Stainless steel bearings, just over $10 each. They also have a hybrid bearing that is stainless with ceramic balls. They recommend these on the small Neu motor. They are $23 each.

Hi Wren

Can you confirm your bearing sizes. The rear was 5x16x5 non flanged, but what for the front ?
BTW, i have been flying mine around 160 flights now, and its still running strong. It is good to know that when we hear some noise, its time to examine and put in new bearings in and quite easy way.

The front bearing was flanged. 5 mm ID, 13 mm OD, 4 mm width.
Here's the one I ordered:

Upon reassemble, what epoxy/glue did you use?

Still waiting on bearing. John says to use JB Weld, that's what I plan on using.

That was Bob's suggestion (and Steve Neu said epoxy when I was quizzing him about motor construction) - we don't have it 'Down Under' - I think the longer setting epoxies are the way to go - the 5 min varieties seem to stay softer after cure and not degrade quite so well on heat when you apply the heat. In Oz I use Araldite regular and not had probs (yet!)

OK, Bearings came in and it's assembled! I did go ahead and use a dab of loctite on the bearing to shaft. The motor is a lot quieter than before. I think the squealing noise that we sometimes hear is the loose fit between the front bearing and the shaft. My motor already had a small amount of wear on the shaft (very small, perhaps even just discolored).

That would make sense. I tried to check the bearings yesterday on my 1515/2.5d/f/h motor without disassembly and they seem to be in great condition from what I can tell. The motor is performing great for me even with the Align 75 ESC. I personally would not disassemble the motor myself.

I cleaned my 1515h bearings, brushed them clean, and used a half drop of green on the shaft on both bearings and the motor is quieter.

I have flown a lot three different days out since and the green is still tight with NO lateral side play at all.

Probably 100 flights now...
