I am trying to perfect my figure of eight maneovers in the Phoenix sim. I have a long way to go.
Does anyone have any tips to help ensure that the turns are well executed? I sometimes find myself flying sideways through part of the turn. Sometimes l come perilously close to the ground or shoot up too high, usually after the apex of the turn. Perhaps I should post a phoenix clip, so you tell me where I am going wrong - you could probably write pages lol. Cheers Geoff.

Geoff, I find that backing off the power slightly just when you enter the turn helps, add equal amounts of aileron and rudder, then feed in power and drop the nose as you exit. Hope this helps, I don't have a sim!

Too much rudder (tail) in a turn will make the turn finish higher and make the heli skid around sideways a bit like a car doing a handbrake turn. Too little tail make the boom drop and the heli drop on its side, coming out of the turn (hopefully) lower then it went in and often needing a little opposite aileron cyclic to prevent over banking.
Bottom line - too much tail is better then too little. tail control generally leads the turn too, by a half a second'ish. Tip - notice the boom during the turn - aim to make it stay parallel with the horizon - works every time...... I enjoy deliberatly oversteering with the tail, to get that oversteer, handbrake turn, effect. Looks good when combined with a drop in collective for a kind of Helter Skelter descending half turn down to a full stop. Give it a try!!!!!

Geoff has simmed with us on several occasions. Last time i saw him i was helping him out with stationary flips. The large time difference makes it hard for him to fly with us tho .... but thats not dang excuse

You can order online from the Co-op now!, I thought it was only Tesco's lol.
See just tried moments ago - no-one from anywhere in the world, not even Deepest Darkest Peru! Why is that? its so irritating!

Rudder coordination. With just the right amount of rudder, you can fly around in circles with NO aileron input after rolling in. Too much rudder, and your back elevator will roll you out of the turn. Too little rudder, and your back elevator will roll further into the turn. If you're finishing in a climb, you're using too much rudder... going round the turn in a "skid".

This big enough for you?
World's largest pancake is 2.5ton weight, made in 2005 in Canada. ![]()

Definately more fun flying with others, even more fun with TeamSpeak or similar. I don't really understand Phoenix Creator, I just use Adobe Photoshop.

Thanks for the tips guys, I have made a note of each point, and I will look out for those interactions when I sim.
Cheers Geoff.

I don't know if it will make any difference to you but I've found that circuits and 8's are easier in real life. I've also found that the more I set up my heli like the one in the sim the easier it is to fly in real life.
