Default thro Gov is it a must?

Guys, i just got my 600n fix up and readly to fly. But there is one thing that i am not sure about. Is it a must to have a thro Gov. If Yes which is the best in the market, and its easy to set up?

most newer radios have mixing that can pretty much do the same thing as a gov(throttle to swash mix)but a gov is nice and takes a lot less work to set up correctly.

i run a throttle jockey pro, works great!( 89 bucks at heliproz)

you dont need a gov but its a nice thing to have.

I run my heli without a Gov....there are pros and cons to it but since i don't know enough about it to explain them you should do a search and you should find a bunch of discussions on it.

Hi,

What governor will work with a 6 channel receiver? One headspeed only that can be preset on the governor itself.

It have been said already. You dont need a governor but your heli feels like ist would have more power because the HS is more consistant. But to be honest I flow a long time without a governor and it also worked nicly.

All it takes is learning how to manipulate the throttle and collective curves in the transmitter. It's not hard, but it can be a little time consuming, especially when you're new to it. Personally, I think it's to the pilots advantage to learn how to setup the throttle and collective curves without resorting to the crutch of a governor. Fully understanding how throttle and collective interact with each other will go a long way to helping you fine turn your setups down the road.

I've met a number of folks through the years that thought that all they had to do was throw a governor and heading hold gyro on the bird and go fly, only to find out that the technology can't compensate for a poorly setup helicopter and since they didn't understand how the controls interact, they didn't have a clue as to how to fix it.

By all means, get the governor if you want one, but take the time to do an initial throttle setup too. You don't have to turn the governor on right away. You can do that initial setup to where you think you want it to be and then activate the govenror and see how close you got to it's programmed rpm. It's an easy way to verify what you've got.

Best of luck & Fly Safe,
Steve R.

being new to nitro, installing a multigov on my 600N has been the best thing ever.
second was the carbsmart.
really happy with those 2.

You can do that with the Multigov. Since the channel just flips between settings in the governor, you just need to put a jumper on the connector where the setting channel would normally connect.

To add to Alan's post, the new MultiGov Pro version doesn't need the jumper anymore.

Thanks Guys,

Hi Bob,

Does that mean the new one needs an extra channel? or can I still use it on 6 channels.

You can still use it on 6 channels. It probably just means that they've put a pull-up or pull-down resistor on the connector so that if there's nothing connected to it, it defaults to always choosing one of the settings.

Alan is right. You can still use it on 6 channels but only one speed will be used.

I've never used a governor on my nitro pro, but I do have some very accurate throttle and pitch curves loaded in. From those that have flown my heli, they can't tell it doesn't have a governor except for when it's in a verticle dive with 0 pitch on the blades, very slight increase in speed. A good friend of mine has tried several governers, they never seem to work right, always something with a broken pickup, thrown magnet, fan out of balance, etc.

I'm the guy you are talking about, when I got into nitro did not have a clue, but Multigov and Carbsmart filled in very well, I will recommend Multigov because it takes the guess work out if you don't know how to tune the engine, after some time you would be able to tune the engine and set your curves.

Now I can tune and set my curves without Multigov and Carbsmart, because I'm used to the Nitro engine but before without the help of a good pilot it could have cost me an engine as you tend to read on these post - I blow a hole in my piston!!!!

Now you don't need a Carbsmart with the new Multigov Pro has it built in for you.

Hey Bob, remember a while back I suggested you incorporate carbsmart into the govenor and you did, sure look nice, can't wait to get my hands on one for the T700N maybe.

Thanks

Robert
