Default WHAT WOULD CAUSE a ESC to FLAME UP?

Bin flying about 15 packs, am a newbie, then today I landed & the ESC started smoking then burst into flames. The heli is OK but the ESC is TOAST.
What hapenned? BLC40.

Sorry to hear it.

Maybe something shorted the ESC out? Any chafed wiring from the ESC to the motor? Other than that, did anything stall the motor? Was it hot? Have you tested the motor with anoter ESC? Maybe the motor went in and took the ESC with it. Is there any sign of melting/burning on the motor wiring?

Do take a very close look at the the sharp CF frames, they can eat away the wiring insuation.

may not have to do with the ESC but mesh between motor pinion and main gear, if too tight > more amp draw > over heat > death...
does the head spins freely for about 3 to 4 turns when you spin it by hand?
just an idea!
