Kit arrived yesterday - the flybar version without the bling

- hard to understand the Mikado philosophy of making 2 classes of heli - I'm sure most people would be happy to cough up an extra $50-100 to get the ball races - metal swash and mount etc !! Even though it probably doesn't affect performance one jot ! - If I was cynical I'd think that there was a better mark up on selling individual part upgrades than including the lot in a new kit - good job I'm not cynical

Anyway first video posted of the box contents - this looks a straightforward build - I'm going to use the Align 510 servos although it looks like the kit is predrilled for 9650s. Also going to use the Hacker A40 12 8 pole motor as factory recommended - haven't decided on ESC yet - maybe my CC80 - should really get a Jazz 80 but the credit card a bit thin - $375 for the kit and about another $1000 for the extras !

Looking forward to the rest of the build as it looks like a neat helicopter.

Also this is just me but I would like to see it built stock-nothing fancy or no bling at this time and see how it goes.

I think that Finless when he did the build on the Knight 600E it was done without the bling and fancy servos-correct me if I am wrong
Anyway looking forward to your project and there is a few neat helicopters in this size range looking pretty good-the Protos, the Atom and the Logo 400.

I agree Frank - I'm gonna build it straight out of the box - no bling - and I'm sure it's gonna be a great heli

I´m looking forward to your build video. I am getting mine tomorrow. I´ve ordered the Vbar Version and i´m not sure which servos i take. The 9650 are not cheap and the gears are not the best. What about the hitec 85MG 82MG or the 5245 ? Why did you choose the align ? Are they strong enough for the Vbar ?
Oh man that´s a hard decision :-)

9650s servos center nice and are more than strong enough for this bird, they worked great in my Logo 14s which ran of course 600mm mains to, don't underestimate them for certain.

I think 9650s are gonna be the servos of choice - the frames are ready cut out & drilled for them and include spacers to get the swash linkage right - I'm having trouble getting the linkages right with my Align DS 520s

- I chose the Align because they were cheap - impressive specs and I was impressed with the 620s - they seem a bit sloppy in gear train though and of course they're not as fast as they claim !! (See Ultimate Servo Tester thread)

Do you know the JR Z3650 servo will fit the L400 frame? I bought these servo and was planning to build a Trex500 but I think I will build Logo400 Vbar instead. Thanks

They may be a bit short - the cutout in the frame is 1.2" but this has been precut and drilled for the 9650 to 1.4" with the mounting holes 1.7" apart whilst the 3650 is quoted at 1.3" long - otherwise their spec is good ! You could make them fit with a plate if they come up too short but it's a bit of a pain - you might have to fiddle with ball link geometry too

GJ on the build vid so far Merc, wish I had the patience to do these. Usually when I build I barely eat or drink I get so zoned and into it, I can't imagine taking this much time to stop and film etc, good on you and Bob for these things!

Posted Gears - installation of landing gear & main shaft & swash. Ran into problems with the one way and shaft - the one - way bearing was faulty with flash protruding inside - lucky I had a spare as it's same as the Logo 5\600 - then the shaft wouldn't fit in the one way due to burrs on the drill holes on the shaft which needed emery papering off

- Not a usual occurrence for Mikado kit I hasten to add. The Align servos ended up pretty square - maybe 2-3° off but even all round so I'm pretty happy - waiting on my motor to arrive from PerthRC so I'll do the rotor head and tail next
