No, you are not. I have noticed some variation in tail booms though. I've had one that literally needed to be pulled back out between each flight, and another that didn't move for at least a month before I used a tree to bend it, hehe.
The one I am using currently need to be checked every few flights. I've got a piece of electrical tape on the boom to add some to the diameter, and that helps but is still subpar. I've read some of people using an aluminum tail servo mount to butt up against the frame to help. I use those mounts now and they are unmoveable when tight (unlike the plastic mounts), so that will likely fix the problem.
Agreed though, it is really obnoxious to suddenly have tail problems in the middle of a flight due to something like this.
