The Journey of an AP Cameraman

Posted 02-25-2008 at 05:41 AM by FlyinTiger

Well, to start off I suppose I need to set the stage. I am an aircraft fanatic since I can remember and love flying R/C with my family. My 3 year old and 2 year old are taking their turn the sim and buddy box already.

My wife, having falling in love with helicopters, is pursuing a noble facet of the hobby. She is working on building a business out of her experience flying helis and is learning a whole lot as she goes. I told her I would be her camera operator and try to stay out of the details of the business or heli flying so she can truly claim that it was all her doing.

She knows her business can satisfy her full scale aviation urges since she doesn't have time and we don't set aside the money to exercise her private pilot's license. I know she'll work hard at something that is her passion and aviation, specifically helicopters, fits that bill.

I volunteered to be her camera man if she needs someone to operate the gimbal on her heli. Teamwork and careful communication has proven to be an important recipe for success. I am having fun volunteering my time through the learning and execution phases.

With another Spring around the corner it is time for her to sharpen the skills and hit the marketing trail. Most people have never heard of, or even thought of this niche in the photography industry. I wish her good luck and stand by her, quite literally.

Check out her business at www.precisionwhirlycam.com for sample photos and other interesting facts.
