Finally crashed the T-Rex...

Posted 02-21-2008 at 02:16 AM by int2str (From The Sideline)

Yupp, I finally got it over with.... After a good 30+ event free flights, I crashed. Completely my own fault, too. No dumb-thumb, no unexpected failure, just a stupid idea...

Flew the T-Rex at a local park with a huge soccer field. Set up at a concrete picnic table, walked the 450 to the field and took off. Right around where I would expect the battery timer to go off, I decided I could "walk" the heli back to the table. Slowly hovered it back to the table and decided I...

Watch out for sand ...

Posted 02-17-2008 at 08:59 PM by int2str (From The Sideline)

... in your TX!

Today I finally managed to get my T-Rex 450 setup to my liking! No more wag issues, plenty of head speed and insane roll and flip rates! Very nice. The main issue were the blades (heavy Align semi-carbons vs. light woodies). Thanks to Dieselracer (Jose) for all the setup help, Axe CP paddles and the test flight.

But I almost ruined my new setup due to sand. Sand in my controller that is. I went to fly and just when I got my throttle/pitch stick past...

More tail wag issues...

Posted 02-17-2008 at 12:55 AM by int2str (From The Sideline)

It was a very nice day today in San Diego. The sun was shining and the wind was calm. Coronado and the Coronado bridge provided a beautiful backdrop for a nice day of flying.

Indeed, I got quite a few very nice flights in today. Nice forward flight with very large, smooth banked turns, lazy eights, loops, rolls, you name it (within my limits). The heli behaved very nicely and was...

eLogger fun, governor mode and some good flights

Posted 02-15-2008 at 03:53 PM by int2str (From The Sideline)

The T-Rex 450 now has an Eagle Tree eLogger V3 tacked to it's side.

I took it to a large soccer field this morning and gave it a nice workout. Went through all three batteries with no incident and had a lot of fun doing so. I did manage to bog the motor down quite a bit again at one point. The logger graph reflects that nicely.

The Align ESC has gotten a bad reputation for it's governor mode, but I think I'm going to try that for a change. Now that I have a logger that...

Wind well... blows!

Posted 02-13-2008 at 06:19 PM by int2str (From The Sideline)
Updated 02-13-2008 at 07:24 PM by int2str (Updated with short flight)

I've stopped by no less than three potential flying sites around here today. The wind is way to gusty and strong at every single one of them.

Would be nice to have an old warehouse or gym to fall back to...

Wind blows!

Update:
Well, I threw caution into the wind (get it? ) and went for the quick hover in an adjacent parking lot of an abandoned office building. The wind didn't allow for much more than a single pack hover, but at least I can...
