eLogger fun, governor mode and some good flights

Posted 02-15-2008 at 03:53 PM by int2str (From The Sideline)

The T-Rex 450 now has an Eagle Tree eLogger V3 tacked to it's side.

I took it to a large soccer field this morning and gave it a nice workout. Went through all three batteries with no incident and had a lot of fun doing so. I did manage to bog the motor down quite a bit again at one point. The logger graph reflects that nicely.

The Align ESC has gotten a bad reputation for it's governor mode, but I think I'm going to try that for a change. Now that I have a logger that...

Helicopter forums and ads...

Posted 02-14-2008 at 01:22 PM by int2str (From The Sideline)

The Internet is full of great forums. There's car forums, technology forums, very large game forums and even forums about nothing in particular at all.

Then of course there are various, different RC helicopter forums.

Now what makes the latter ones different from most other subject forums? Ads!

Somehow, helicopter forums - including the venerable Helifreak - are riddled with advertisements. So much so, they look like macabre copies of time square in New...

Wind well... blows!

Updated 02-13-2008 at 07:24 PM by int2str (Updated with short flight)

I've stopped by no less than three potential flying sites around here today. The wind is way to gusty and strong at every single one of them.

Would be nice to have an old warehouse or gym to fall back to...

Wind blows!

Update:
Well, I threw caution into the wind (get it? ) and went for the quick hover in an adjacent parking lot of an abandoned office building. The wind didn't allow for much more than a single pack hover, but at least I can...

Before I call it a day, I'll submit my flight log for the day...

It's been a good day! I managed to fly my three packs on my way to work. Since I brought the charger to my office, I was able to fly another full set during lunch and then snuck 2 more packs in right before dusk. It got dark quickly though and I felt it was too dangerous to fly my last pack.

Lots of good flights today. I worked on my various hover orientations and improved my biggest flying problem a little...

New pinion, swash tweaking and blade tracking...

Posted 02-13-2008 at 06:03 AM by int2str (From The Sideline)

I've had my 450S in the air for about a week now and it's been good. The heli has not been crashed even once yet and is very easy to fly. I've got about 20 flights on it now and can't believe how smooth it's been so far. Not all is well however.

The 450S as it's setup right now is pretty easy to bog down and won't hover inverted very comfortably. It also requires too much stick (throttle/pitch) to hover in my opinion. Being new to this hobby and the T-Rex, I have yet to figure out...
