HK-T500: Flights #1-3 and Crash #1

Posted 08-06-2009 at 12:38 PM by nasukaren

Haven't been updating my blog nearly enough, sorry faithful readers....

I built my HK-T500 on the eve of the Tuscurora RotorBash and maidened it there.

Flight #1: Sunday July 26th
Just couldn't get the head tracking properly and sponsored were hogging the field, flying without spotters, buzzing the n00bs and otherwise being jerks. Nonetheless, it flew!

Flight #2: Tuesday July 28
Took it to my local park and it flew -- but a few minutes into flight, the tail servo bracked broke off and the bird piroed to the ground. TH was off immediately so damage was limited.

Flight #3: Thursday August 6th
Finally got all the parts in and took it for a hover this morning. Tracking is still lousy, even with replacement blades. I think I'm going nuts here on this tracking issue. Flight was good for one battery until the motor mount backed the pinion off the main gear. Not enough loctite after replacing the MG. Nonetheless, excepting the tracking, it flies.

HK-T500 crash running count:
1x Tail servo mount
1x Tail fin (vertical; aluminium bent)
1x Main frame (bent slightly, replaced w/ G10)

HK-T500 configuration and replacements
Scorpion motor
Turnigy Plus 60A ESC
G10 main frame
G10 tail servo mount
Align main gear bracket/one way
HK-parts main gear
GF main blades (ebay cheapos)
Hitec HS-225MG cyclic
GWS HPX tail servo
