Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 71-75; flip #1; and crash #4 -- yes, a good day!

Went out to my local RC airfield this morning. No one was there!

Had four great flights on my Tarbo HDX-450. Nice long runs to warm up, then took my ES600 up, then another run, and then the last run of the day I decide to try a loop / flip.

I've done loops before on the sim and I've been flying in idle-up so I felt prepared. The wind was good.... the bird was flying good.

So I went for it and did it!!!! It turned out to be more a flip than a loop since my...

ES600 Flight #6: Flying great

Also took the ES600 for a spin. She's now acting great, if I wasn't chicken I could really fly her. Good piros. Sounds fantastic.

Three minute flight so I can gauge battery use and put a timer on her.

Ok, 1538 mAh back in... at 3 minutes.... so 500 mAh a minute...

Using the 80% rule, 5000 mAh * 80% == 4000 mAh.

Which means I can fly for 8 minutes.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 70-71

Posted 06-25-2009 at 08:39 PM by nasukaren

Two nice flights on the HDX today. Six on the first, four on the second. Unfortunately got out to the park too late and it was turning dusk -- plus the bugs were out in full force, so couldn't fly as much as I wanted.

Moving the gyro definitely improved things a little. I could turn up the gain to 75% on my DX6i before the wagging returned.

The 90 yaw to the left when doing pitch pumps still exists. I have crappy tail blades on the HDX, I'll try replacing those and see...

Tarbosaurus 450 - maintenance blog (Inolabs; gyro)

Posted 06-24-2009 at 11:45 PM by nasukaren

More rain today so I did some more maintenance on the Tarbo. Replaced the seesaw bearing that had gone bad with a new one from RC-bearings.

Moved the gyro from the inside of the body to the standard gyro location (rear of main shaft). I hope this cures my gyro problems.

Replaced the MG-90s that had served faithfully with Inolab HG-D202MG metal gear digital servos. No real reason for replacement (i.e. the MG90s were perfectly good) except for vanity.

The specs...

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 68-69

Posted 06-23-2009 at 08:31 PM by nasukaren

Finally got a break in the weather and put in two 6 minute flights this morning. Still really windy and gusty and so it was a bit of a bear to fly and almost lost it a few times, but made it back in one piece.
