ES600 Flight #4: Put in some parts

Posted 05-23-2009 at 07:50 PM by nasukaren

Finally the parts I was waiting arrived. A GY-401b (GYRD) from DealExtreme and an AR7000 receiver. These were to replace the parts that I burned out.

Did some test hops in my back yard, but got too freaked out by the size of the 600 and decided to wait to take it to the park for full tests.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 12-13

Two nice flights at the park. Very strong wind (~ 30 kph gusts (20 mph)) but it was good practice. Went for 5 minutes on each pack in order to save the batteries.

Zippy 20C (2) on the first, 30C (1) on the second. You can tell the 30C battery runs a little cooler.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 10-11

Two nice flights before work this morning. Five minutes each, hopefully this will reduce wear and tear on the batteries.

Noticed some slight bogging on pitch changes and I think I want more pitch range on throttle -- the bird is very relaxed in making elevation changes.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 8-9 (crash 2 updated)

Posted 05-22-2009 at 01:06 AM by nasukaren

Went to the park with my puppy and put in two nice flights. I'm still taking down my batteries down too much, I need to get a louder LiPo alarm or a hearing aid.

Had my eagletree on, here's the log:

On the second battery, the tail hit the tall grass in my park and stripped the front tail pulley. Not calling it a crash but listing it in my replaced parts.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flight 7

Posted 05-21-2009 at 12:26 AM by nasukaren

The parts from HeliDirect arrived today so I took it out for a nice 6 minute flight in my backyard. Everything was just perfectly tuned in, a total delight to fly.

One thing that is bothering me is that either the frequency is too soft or the volume of the LiPo alarm on my heli or the count-down timer on my Spektrum DX6i are too soft, I can't hear them....

Took the battery down below 3.2 volts per cell. Not good. I need a louder alarm / timer.
