Flyin' and buildin'

Posted 12-20-2010 at 04:54 AM by nwmtech

Great day out at the Lynden Flying Club. Meet a friend of mine out there and ended up getting in half a dozen flights or so. It was a little chilly but as long as you stayed under about 150ft the wind wasn't bad at all. I'm almost getting a little too comfortable with the N5. It's so ridiculously stable and predictable I was really screwing around down low. I've still got a very slight tail wag in certain maneuvers but it's so little I didn't feel like messing with it today and didn't change...

700 overhaul

Posted 12-18-2010 at 02:25 AM by nwmtech

Put 2 flights on the N5 at lunch today. Beautiful sunny day but colder than hell with the wind. By the end of the last flight the tail was awesome and it's currently flying the best it's been so far. I can't wait for a full nice weather day at the field to really polish up the last couple tweaks. Funny thing is I haven't even touched the head gain since the original install. I will eventually put some effort into tuning it but there's no sense in messing with multiple things. My focus lately...

Comparison of VBar 5.0 to TotalG

Posted 12-12-2010 at 05:21 PM by nwmtech

Figured I'd do a seperate entry here as to keep the clutter down.

For my style of flying and how I'm now learning I like the heli to feel 5.0 simply blows the TotalG out of the water. Flat piros and top notch piro compensation is something that's a must to me and the TotalG simply isn't even in the same league as 5.0. While the new TotalG firmware is better from what I've flown, if those two things are key to you as well then you should look towards 5.0 or MB. It was a very nice...

N5 maiden on VBar 5.0

Posted 12-12-2010 at 04:56 PM by nwmtech

Made it out to the field yesterday and got in about 7 flights on the N5. Immediate difference in how locked in the heli was. I fought a slight tail wag most of the day but by the last flight it was almost resolved and the tail performance was pretty darn good. Tuning the head was a piece of cake and within 3 or 4 flights it was 90% tuned. Only remaining thing is a slight shake during tic tocs which I'm almost positive will be resolved with a stiffer mounting system as I was using Align gel....

N5 maiden. Switching flybarless units

Posted 12-08-2010 at 04:07 PM by nwmtech

I'm a little behind on the updates I know but I'm finally getting over this nasty cold so things should be back to normal shortly. Got the N5 maidened this last weekend. Wow, what an incredibly smooth heli. It was super windy so I couldn't get the last little tidbits of the TotalG tuned in but overall in 3 flights it was flying quite well and 90% dialed in. The extra weight of the N5 in comparison to my 7lb 600 was suprisingly welcome. It still had plenty of power and was overall just a lot...
