E-smart 600: Flight 5

I haven't flown my ES600 because I was nervous about flying it in my small park near my home. Took it to the Berlin field and spun it up. The first "hop" was bad -- some weird gyro problem. Dialed the gyro down to 60% (JR) and it all calmed down.

Very nice 5-6 minute flight on it. It was flying very good. Yay! Recharged to 2700 mAh back in on my 5000 pack, so well within limits. It was fun!

Maybe I won't sell it after all!

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 61-64

Posted 06-15-2009 at 12:36 AM by nasukaren

Andy invited me to the Berlin CT flying club where I had a blast. Thanks andy!

Four flights on my Tarbo. I thought I was going pretty long but I forgot to set my timer because I was nervous and they tended to be 4 minute flights. I could have gone twice as long -- but it's hard when really GOOD pilots are watching........

No crashes. After the last flight, I noticed my seesaw bearing looked odd. When I took it home, it was clear the little bearing was damaged. I didn't...

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 57-60 (crash 3.1 )

Posted 06-13-2009 at 08:48 PM by nasukaren

Helifreak user lstmysock11 introduced me to the CT SwampFlyer field. Had four good flights with no crashes, but as I was carrying the bird back to the station, forgot that it was still plugged in and turn off the transmitter. I thought the Spektrum failsafe would be ok, but apparently not. It went to half throttle in my hand, hit my pinky, and fell to the ground and did the chicken dance.

Ouch.... Not calling it a real crash since it was a ground incident, but still caused some damage...

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 52-53-56 (crash #3)

Flights 52 - 53

"Brought to you by Scorpion motors".....

Flight 52 was good, but with flight 53, I crashed....My first crash on the 'tarbo in over 40 flights!......

I was flying around, and then forgot if I had set the timer. Set my bird down, put in 0 collective (blades still spinning at half throttle) and peeked at my timer, and KATHUMP........ dead chicken dance.

Scorpion motor + dead chickens === MAJOR damage.... to some parts....

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 49-51

Posted 06-10-2009 at 01:03 PM by nasukaren

Two flights this morning (and one that I missed logging from last time). Put the new Scorpion and 6 volt BEC in. Flights were 4-5 minutes timed.

The Scorpion is *great*. Much quieter than the DealExtreme motor and tons of power. Absolutely no bogging and tail wagging even on severe pitch pumps (send bird down, then pump throttle to send it back up). Very happy.

Also, strangely, the batteries seem cooler with the Scorpion. I'm looking forward to seeing the EagleTree logs...
