Extolling the virtues of XT150 connectors

Posted 08-23-2013 at 11:03 AM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

It's been a long time since I've had anything useful to blog, but I figured this was worth the effort.

After a recommendation by a couple of folks on the Compass forum, I decided to use XT150 connectors on my 7HV instead of the EC5s I was originally planning to use. There are fewer unnecessary connections with the XT150s and they're capable of carrying much higher current, which should make for better power transfer and less connector and wire bulk. They're also considerably less...

A little about me

I have been fascinated with all things RC since I can remember. As a child I remember staring at the Cox glow powered models in the Sears Christmas Catalog year after year. Finally, one year for my birthday, my Father took me to a local hobby shop where we purchased a glow powered control line plane and I've been hooked ever since.

Later, as I was able to purchase models on my own, I tried cars, planes and even a Hirobo glow heli which proved to be too much for me in the days before...

Heli-Log 8:1:2013 IRCHA!!

Day one (Tuesday) arrived at IRCHA, and setup camp. Most of the flight line was filled!!! After we picked our spot, it was time to find Raja and Doug Darby. I found Raja and spent about an hour talking and watching him fly. It was apparent I still have some work to do on my Whippy.

I met Adam and discussed setup issues with my MultiGov...Adam says no problem, we'll get fixed. So Raja said to fly my Whippy. First flight was going good until I started autos. The third auto sounded funny...

Heli-Log 7:23:2013

Whiplash Electric update…

I bound the AR7200BX with the satellite, used a spare servo first to see if it would work versus ruining a new MKS servo, and it worked. Then I plugged the ESC in, no smoke. Next step, I plugged to 6 cell packs and the ESC went through its start up…counting the number of cells. I slowly advanced the throttle stick to see if the motor would spin and it did!!! So far, so good…

Afterwards, I disconnected everything and mounted the cyclic servos,...

Update on my Whiplash electric…

I’m finally gaining some ground on this simple electric heli! My first problem, that I incurred, was buying LiPo packs that are too big for the frame, and the power wires exit the side of the pack making it impossible to fit into the frames. Then I smoked all four servos, I might have ruined the ESC (need to try programming to see if I can spin the motor), but the AR7200BX seems to be working ok…so far!

I decided to make a sliding battery...
