Logo Almost Ready to Test Fly

Posted 05-28-2009 at 09:11 AM by skigolfmike

Since I had the Logo 400 pieced together, tonight I started to set it up.

I actually got home from golf league early and thought I'd have enough day light. Bad assumption on my part. I got into a discussion with my wife regarding a replacement heating and cooling system for the house. It's something we needed to discuss, but it did eat most of the remaining daylight. I did have enough daylight for a twilight flight of the Gooie 200 in the coldesac though. I actually had it flying some really nice funnels.

Enough about that, on to the Logo.

Initially it was looking like this would be pretty easy. That should have been my clue that I was about to get slammed. The first issue was setting up the swash. I hooked up the servos, got them moving in the right direction, centered the arms and, OMG, the swash is way low and why do I have all this negative pitch. I ended up spending a lot of time reading the manual (Thanks Todd!) and finally figured out the lengths for the linkages in the manual were way to short. I ended up taking the linkages completely apart and rebuilding them as long as safely possible. That actually worked and got the swash up to where it needed to be.

Setting up the tail was really a piece of cake. I have used the JR770 3D gyro before, so I know the ins and outs pretty well. The trick is finding the right servo hole that will give just enough throw so the limit pot is only turned down a little. That was a pretty straight forward deal and took about 10 minutes to setup. I also upgraded the software on the Phoenix 60 ESC, set it up in Heli Fixed mode and programmed the transmitter to it.

At this point the only things left to do are check the pitch ranges, attach the RX and tie down the wires. If it doesn't' rain I might get to fly it tonight.
