HobbyCity - "325"mm Carbon Fibre Blades

Posted 02-16-2009 at 04:42 PM by ted_wears_a_hat (The Trials & Tribulations of a Learner)

I have had a good few flights and even a crash now with a couple of pairs of Hobby City blades so probably time to comment.

First pair are the TIG 325mm Carbon Fiber Z-Weave and the second pair are generically titled 325mm Carbon Fiber Main Blade Yellow.

On opening the package initial impressions were blimey, these are light! I couldn't believe it but both pairs are lighter than the stock woodies. These are 325mm in the Align sense of the word so they are actually 315mm...

Sim Orientation Training #4

Posted 02-15-2009 at 04:05 PM by ted_wears_a_hat (The Trials & Tribulations of a Learner)

Below are a couple of phoenix recording of todays post crash nose in "re"-orientation! For fun I then tried nose in on a larger bird and it surprising how much difference there is. I'm glad I always try things on the B400 model before thinking I can do it in real life! And even then I crash.

Flight #133, #134 & #135

Posted 02-15-2009 at 04:01 PM by ted_wears_a_hat (The Trials & Tribulations of a Learner)

I flew three packs today, flying fast and high, all great fun. Pack 4 and 5 I had said I was going to practise nose in hovering and was doing great for half of pack 4 then had a near miss. I too quickly tried to get back to nose in without letting my nerves calm and pretty quickly binned it. Usual suspects need changing, feathering shaft and main shaft as well as boom and boom support. The only other thing bust up is the blade grips and I put this down to the fact I was flying with CF blades (tried...

Sim Orientation Training #3

Posted 02-09-2009 at 04:36 PM by ted_wears_a_hat (The Trials & Tribulations of a Learner)

Simulator Used: Phoenix 2.00q
Duration: 20 mins
Aims: Practise side in (both sides) hovering and nose in hovering.
Actual Progress: Hovered a full pack on each side in orientation. Hovered a few minutes of nose in with no need to recover by going back to tail in but it was never particularly steady. Also practised flying it out and turning and flying back into me to land. When th eheli is moving for some reason it seems a little more easy to remember to Sticks Towards Danger....

Flew 4 packs today out at the field yesterday, had great fun, it was pretty windy so I forego any hover practise and just flew around making some turns and enjoying. Not very focused I know but we all need a little fun!

Some numbers from the flights:

Fast forward flight with the same setup as before, flying for 5.10 in gusty wind and low temps.

Battery: MaxAmps 3s1p 2100 mAh 25C
Flight Time: 5.10
