"The Grass Is Brown Everywhere"

Year's ago I took a job in Texas and when I started work I discovered that I had been "sold" on the job as much as I had been selling myself to the company.

After 2 weeks of discovering how this new job was even worse than my previous one, I returned to the former job (with a big pay increase) and coined the phrase "The Grass Is Brown Everywhere" to explain why I returned.

The acronym TGIBE became my username on many forums and accounts over the years...

500 Build Part VI

Posted 05-05-2008 at 04:18 PM by TGibe

I am entering the final stretch with my 500 build and am getting anxious to see this thing fly. The one thing I wan't really expecting was how heavy this thing is! With the battery, motor, and electronics installed you can tell this is a substantial bird.

Anyway, I was able to spent a couple of hours on the build Sunday evening and accomplished the following (the rest of the weekend was spent golfing and on honey-do's):
  • Mounted the motor and attached the RevCo 12T pinion.
  • Cleaned up and tywrapped motor wiring.
  • Created model on DX7 and bound RX and TX.
  • Added the Eagletree Brushless motor sensor (had to use both leads to get it to work on the 500L).
  • Removed the extension from the ESC based on feedback from fellow freaks.
  • Set zero pitch using the "zero pitch gauge" from ReadyHeli.
  • Leveled the swash using the Trueblood tool.
  • Attached head and checked for binding throughout the servo range.
  • Adjusted tail servo and Gyro (401) for max throw without binding.
The only thing left now is to set the head up, create my pitch/throttle curves, charge the rest of the batteries, and go fly
