"The Grass Is Brown Everywhere"

Year's ago I took a job in Texas and when I started work I discovered that I had been "sold" on the job as much as I had been selling myself to the company.

After 2 weeks of discovering how this new job was even worse than my previous one, I returned to the former job (with a big pay increase) and coined the phrase "The Grass Is Brown Everywhere" to explain why I returned.

The acronym TGIBE became my username on many forums and accounts over the years...

Blade mCX

Posted 11-02-2008 at 08:49 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

Got bored the other day so I ordered a Blade mCX bind-n-fly from ReadyHeli...

Very cool little bird! I am having a blast flying it around the house tormenting our little chihuahua

I am amazed at the stability of this little guy and love using my DX7 as the radio.

I just need to get a couple more battery packs so when the NW rains set in I will have something to fly around indoors.

Cheers,
Allen

Finally flying again

Posted 10-19-2008 at 01:30 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

Well I am back out flying after taking the summer off for Golf.

I still am amazed at how well the 500 flies. The bird is so responsive and stable. For basic circuit flying like I do the Align 6S batteries last sooo long. I set my timer for 7:30 and never come close to 80% battery burn.

This time of year in the NW the mornings can be cool (40s and 50s) and the wind is usually dead calm until about lunchtime. For me that is about perfect flying weather.

Finally got some flight time in with the 500

Posted 06-23-2008 at 06:16 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

I can't say enough good things about the 500.

Today I went out to fly and flew 5 packs in my 450 and 5 in my 500. While flying the 450 I was having a bit of trouble with orientation when downrange a ways (I am still just flying circuits).

However, the 500 is another story. I could really see it well even though it was quite a ways downrange. With the 600e landing gear installed I can see it even better than with the stock gear. Also, it handled the wind like it was on...

Slowly progressing

Posted 03-16-2008 at 02:32 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

Yesterday I got out for the first time in 3 weeks and with no time on the SIM I was a bit nervous. But in the end I had added a couple of new skills.

On the 3rd pack I decided to try some figure 8 circuits. I had been practicing them on the SIM a month ago and it just felt right (I was getting a little bored of stall turns). Well, once I started doing it the muscle memory kicked in and I just flew the bird through them for a while. I think the best part was that I didn't have time...

Where does all the time go anyway?

It is kind of strange how for no real good reason you get busy doing stuff and it becomes hard to find time to fly.

Well this is the second weekend in a row I did not fly and now I feel the pressure to get back on the sticks and keep the learning curve going in the right direction.

Last weekend I spent 3 days playing golf and then a week full of work followed by more golf and then I HAD to find time to do something with the family... throw in some unexpected...
