"The Grass Is Brown Everywhere"

Year's ago I took a job in Texas and when I started work I discovered that I had been "sold" on the job as much as I had been selling myself to the company.

After 2 weeks of discovering how this new job was even worse than my previous one, I returned to the former job (with a big pay increase) and coined the phrase "The Grass Is Brown Everywhere" to explain why I returned.

The acronym TGIBE became my username on many forums and accounts over the years...

"Do a loop!"

Posted 02-24-2008 at 09:11 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

Went to the park today with my wife and in the second flight of basically forward flight she yells "Do a loop"...

I couldn't do it ... it was only my 4th time out doing forward flight and I just don't have the skills yet... I did manage some fast forward flight near the ground that got some oohs and awws from the few spectators around (they are easily impressed I guess).

Bummer.

But she did manage to get a few pics of the bird hovering which...

To SIM or not to SIM

Posted 02-21-2008 at 05:47 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

I need to get back on the SIM as the last time I was out I got a little freaked out fearing high-speed contact with mother earth. After stressing over this for a few days, trying to understand why, I think it is becaseu I haven't been on the SIM in weeks...

But the SIM is nowhere near the amount of fun as flying, so I hold out for that...

Hopefully, I can start practicing on the SIM again now that I have forward flight and stall turns down. I guess I should start practicing...

Case of the Nerves

Posted 02-18-2008 at 08:55 PM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

It was almost 60 degrees here in the NW and I got home with about 30 minute of daylight left so I grabbed the flight case and headed down to the High School where I fly.

Not sure if it was because I was rushing around so much, but during the first pack I just got a bad case of the nerves and couldn't shake it.

All I could think about was crashing and I had to literally talk myself out of it.

Granted this was flight #31 and #32 and all I was doing was flying...

Idle up - finally

Posted 02-17-2008 at 12:02 AM by TGibe (The Grass Is Brown Everywhere)

Well today I went out to get a few packs of flying in and after the first pack decided to go into idle-up.

I met someone recently and they suggested that since I am using soft start on the Align ESC that I switch into Idle-up and then release throttle hold with the left stick about middle position. Tried this today and flew four full packs this way. Sure take a lot of getting used to running in idle up, but you have to learn sometime.
