Extolling the virtues of XT150 connectors

Posted 08-23-2013 at 12:03 PM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

It's been a long time since I've had anything useful to blog, but I figured this was worth the effort.

After a recommendation by a couple of folks on the Compass forum, I decided to use XT150 connectors on my 7HV instead of the EC5s I was originally planning to use. There are fewer unnecessary connections with the XT150s and they're capable of carrying much higher current, which should make for better power transfer and less connector and wire bulk. They're also considerably less...

New Canon HD camcorders announced at CES

Posted 01-09-2010 at 11:52 PM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

I'm drooling over the Canon HD camcorder models announced at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. Maybe getting one would convince me to do more flight videos. The tough part will be deciding on a model.

I really don't need the still photo resolution of the S series because I already have a nice 10 megapixel Canon digital SLR (Rebel XTi). However, I love the large (3.5") touch screen on the S series and the fact that the highest end model (HF S21) has an electronic viewfinder,...

Found a potential new local source for parts

Posted 02-17-2008 at 12:04 AM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

I stopped into BMI Hobbies in Plano, TX, to pick up the servo cable extension and the young lady who assisted me informed me that they actually have a heli guy on staff and that they carry Align parts as well as the "consumer" brands (E-Flite and Heli-Max). Alas, they only carry T-Rex 450 parts and I'll mostly be flying my 600N, but on those occasions where I need parts for my Diablo, I'll have to keep them in mind.

There's always at least "one more thing"

Posted 02-16-2008 at 10:44 AM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

I discovered while test-fitting the servos in my 600N that the elevator servo cable is too short, so I'll have to go get an extension. Having to get yet another part wasn't totally unexpected, but it's still annoying.

On a related subject, I've added the ability to make comments on my 600N build blog entries. For anybody that's interested, I used iWeb to create the site and publish it to my .Mac account. It seems to be working out quite well.

Referential treatment

Posted 02-15-2008 at 04:59 PM by TheBum (TheBum's Hangout)

No, that title is not a typo. Since I'm already doing a blog on my own site for my T-Rex 600N Pro build, I'll start out my HeliFreak blog by referencing that blog:

http://www.catservants.net/Site/T-Re...Pro_Build.html

The blog is a few days stale, but I intend to remedy that situation this evening. If you're interested while you're on the site, you can also check out photos and videos of my cats and my initial RC-Tek Diablo experiences from...
