Yet another in a long history of ESC failures on Tioli helis

Posted 03-11-2008 at 02:00 PM by Tioli

I was using the stock motor and ESC on my Hurricane when I heard the motor surging in gentle forward flight. I hit throttle hold and brought it in safely but it was on fire--literally. Looked cool coming down, the smoke curling from under the canopy just like in the movies. I was yelling for someone to take pictures, but when they turned around to see, they were frozen in fascination.

It looks bad, but I only lost two cheapie servos, a couple ball links, the ESC, and the BEC. The battery was fine, although a little singed. I replaced the ESC with the Align 75A and no problems since.
