The Romans

Posted 03-12-2008 at 12:54 PM by Tioli

At our alternate flying field at the Old Kona Airport, there's a group of spectators called the "Romans" because they give a thumbs up or thumbs down for every flight. They actually hold up a card with a number score on it. They also have a cowbell that they ring after spectacular crashes. We fly early Sunday morning, till about noon. The Romans arrive about 8:00, they break out the ice, and tall glasses. They drink straight vodka and with orange juice as a chaser (it is morning, after all)...go home later and sleep it off.
