Crashed cutting weeds

My T-Rex 250 SE/Pro DFC hybrid running a Viper 2s 5600kv motor on 3s with a 5k headspeed, first crash in a while trying to cut weeds.

I know i suck with this tiny crack dragonfly, but i still love her!

My talon 15 burned on on this flight too, my wife didn't keep recording as it was on fire!

Trex 250 St Maurices Pond (4 min 43 sec)

Another round of flights in early today before any wind kicks in. Really starting to get into inverted. Im still a bit all over the place sometimes transitioning but usually stabilise pretty quickly into a fairly steady hover.

I think im really noticing the weight, if you let the heli start falling for just a split second it starts to drop FAST. especially when doing flips if you dont catch it just right it drops like a rock.

Aileron tic tocs. So much easier than normal tic tocs. When i try tic tocs i usually end up seriously bogging, aileron tic tocs??? doesnt even make a dent in the headspeed

oh i wish im just putting up with its quirks, i was constantly on the tail while inverted correcting some drift, the tail kicked sometimes during flips and i also had some wierd cyclic twitch aswell a few times.

I think my batteries might be getting a bit worn aswell and they not been used that much. i compared it to an old video , the heli shot up fast when doing a punch out. Not so much anymore

250 practice (5 min 3 sec)

hmmm couldnt get the rainbows going well.... maybe its because there was hardly any wind but im sliding out at the end of the rainbow.

Plenty of inverted though, theres something about just hovering upside close up thats very satisfying, as simple as it is cant help just sit there infront of yourself

bazsound [ame="https://youtu.be/ObJHBx29Q8A"]250 & 450 summer flying - YouTube[/ame] some more 250 flying (aswell as the 450)

i had a look at the land a little bit more, turns out its not as bad as i thoughtl right infront of the concrete floor is a pond about say 30-40 meteres wide and 3-4 meteres long. theres actually a sort of bridge in the middle that you can walk over to get to the other side. beyond that its all petey land and looks pretty dry with some soggy bits here and there and then a small loch.

So crash recovery wouldnt be too bad, just avoid crashing near your landing zone as you could end up in the pond!!!

something weird happened during a roll, its hard to see in the video as it went out of focus but it looks like the tail shifted clockwise as it came out of the rolll. I couldnt see well as the heli too close to me so almost above and i was looking up so couldnt quite see what was going on i just new something was wrong and saved it.

bazsound Yeah its the only space nearby where i dont feel like someone could walk up to me at any point or walk out into my flight path.

The only issue is the wind, its always more wind there and the wind tends to be always from behind.

The land is pretty boggy aswell, i think its a pete bog with heather growing so im not keen on trying to recover a crashed heli, might even possibly to loose one if you crash it hard onto a puddle

I had upped the gain previously from 40 to 50 to see if that helped it in the wind, i think it did the trick.

ive done some tweaks now with a few points down on the p gain which is sorting the sto pbounce and also getting the tail locked in better. now that i dropped the p gain i could increase the overall gain and BOOM the tail stopped randomly wagging in the wind. and now the piro rate is consistant instead of speeding up and down.

agility was at 100 on that flight, still slow so ive bumped it up to 120 and lowered the style a little. I think getting the flip/roll rate will help alot. Most of the flips in the video is full forward cyclic.

navigator2011 That's some pretty vast, open space you have there. Good job on those flips! I had a V120D02S get away from me once--just zipped out and turned into a tiny black spot. Just had to patiently guide the black spot closer until it looked like a helicopter again.

bazsound Had the 250 out in pretty windy conditions. was actually surprised at how well it handled.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNWzfpXYlSE"]Trex 250 @ fannyside Road - YouTube[/ame]

the only issue was the wind was coming from behind me, the first flip i did i never thought id get the heli back is it went over 100m away and was just a tiny shape. I basically just had to pull back and give almost full collective watching the sahpe making sure it didnt fall down or go any higher until i could see the tail again.

video is pretty shakey, fist time using head cam with less than ideal camera (no stabilisation) and no way of seeing waht the camera is seeing.

bazsound Was just gong through my bar setup as i had bound it to another sat (testing for my 450) and noticed that my main gain was down at 20 and agility at 90!!

whooops that may explain the slightly slow fips

bazsound The problem i have with the sim is its so different to real life that i feel ive learnt how to fly the computer and non of it applies so if i flyt he sim a week, once i get back to real life its like ive went back several steps.

while i get better in the sim, i get worse in real life
03-15-2017 12:09 PM
navigator2011 Have patience, and work on improving that 50% success rate and you'll see a difference. You will.

The biggest barrier to applying what I do in the sim to real life is simply knowing that in real life, the helicopter is really real. That knowledge creates a psychological inhibition, but whenever I have gotten myself into strange situations, the sim-training kicked in and helped me to bring the heli home. So, I'm convinced the simulator helps, even if slowly.

By the way, your 250 looks great! Tail fin should be pointing rearward, though.
03-15-2017 08:51 AM
bazsound im trying to use the sim to learn but i find it does not translate well to my real flying.

in the sim im doing hurricanes , funnels (though with only 50% success rate) stall turns, loops. flips and rolls in all orientations. and half piro flips.

IRL im still flying slowly around, cant do stall turns, not even dared try a loop. My flips are carefully planned and almost alwasy tail in 45 degrees.

anyway,

new canopy paint job, probably added a good 20g weight lol

I second that, sim is a great learning place.

I have phoenix, realflight 7.5 and clearview. none of them small helicopters that well. even 450 size is weird.

ive never flown larger than 450 but the 600 and 700's feel good, beloow 500 is just weird. the 450's are nothing like my 450. not only do they not fly like my 450 they also sound like wasps in a bottle.
