350QX~TX Setups & Files Here.
If we can keep this post for all DX Radio files and all other TX setups so its easier for all 350QX modelers can see what options there are for there TX.
Also any Files or Setups must be fully tested before uploading here with instructions & any warnings that may effect flights. I will begin with 350QX v2 DX18 as follows: Switch G Position 0, Green Smart mode Position 1, Purple AP mode Position 2, Blue Stability mode Regardless of position G switch is in" switch H when switched on will/should override switch G & remain Blue mode regardless of switch G position. Switch A is RTH & will override regardless of G & H switch positions so you now can see the importance of switch assigning as no 2 switches will work together. Button I is your throttle cut (motor cut) do not use in flight. I also advise until you gain experience when switching between flight modes always land first & then change modes not because its my file its even advised with HH with there TX default setups. Flight Advise: If you want to fly Smart mode remain in this mode until you gain experience to switch between modes. AP mode again as above & more importantly if carrying a camera. Stability mode can be with or without camera & switching in/out of 3D mode switch H, Stability & Agility mode. With TX & quad connected only you will see the modes change color as you flick switch, in 3D mode 'H' will be Blue & if you move your cyclic stick you will see led mode change to Red Agility you will also hear a bleeping this is normal as green does the same. 3D flight will be Blue & when you input cyclic will go Red & you can loop/rolls all sorts of fun without fearing how the quad would end up as if you where flying in Agility mode, so with 3D mode at any point going or coming out of the loop/rolls just relax the cyclic stick & she stabilizes itself but as with all crafts you will need to control height with throttle. Updated the SPM file 2/1/15 with expo see page #27

Here are some files for DX6, DX9, and DX18 for the 350 QX3 or an earlier 350 QX upgraded to firmware version 3.
I think there's a lot of value in understanding what an SPM file does. You'll learn a lot more about your transmitter and the aircraft if you make the model yourself. But of course, loading the SPM file makes life a lot easier. Understanding the model setup will also enable you to change it if you don't like something! Here's a PDF file that describes how to create the model setup yourself. The PDF document describes two approaches to setting up the flight modes. One lets you set up all 5 factory flight modes across two switches, and the other lets you pick your favorite three modes and use Digital Switch Setup to assign them to one switch. Both SPM files described by the PDF file are also below. Because "Stagility" isn't a true flight mode on the 350 QX3, I set it up as an additional mix on Switch H. As long as you're in Stability Mode, turning on Switch H to enable the mix will enable "Stagility Mode." EDIT: Frostman83 discovered that if you use a value of +110% for Stability Mode instead of +125% (yes, that works!) then the Stagility Mix is a little less sensitive. That's set in Mix 1. NOTE: Click on the SPM file link below to get your browser to download it. You can't right-click the mouse and "Save Target As..." because the forum will give you a PHP file if you do that! Here's my take on a DX9/DX18 setup for the 350 QX2 or an original 350 QX with firmware version 2.
As before, I've included a PDF file explaining the whole process for creating the setup from scratch. I think it's important to understand how the SPM file works and what the transmitter is really doing. Here's a summary of the controls: Switches B and G - Flight Mode ...Switch B position 0, Switch G anything = Smart Mode ...Switch B position 1, Switch G anything = AP Mode ...Switch B position 2, Switch G position 0 = Stability Mode ...Switch B position 2, Switch G position 1 = Agility Mode Switch D - Return to Home in position 2 only Switch H - Enable Stagility Mix (should only be used in Stability Mode) Button I - Throttle Cut when pressed Switch A - Gimbal Tilt Mode (for GB200 gimbal) Knob - Tilt Gimbal (for GB200 gimbal) NOTE: Click on the SPM file link below to get your browser to download it. You can't right-click the mouse and "Save Target As..." because the forum will give you a PHP file if you do that! |

The model setups I have posted do not include any settings for "high rates" or "low rates". That's OK for Smart Mode and AP Mode, but probably not for Stability of Agility Modes.
The PDF below explains what rates are (Dual Rate and Expo) and how to add them to any model on a DX6, DX9, DX18, and also the DX8. For the 350QX series, you need to have rates at 100% in order to start the motors and do some of the other things like binding with a control stick moved a certain way. So you MUST create a setting on one of your switch positions that's set up with 100% rate and ideally no expo. You'll probably want that for Smart Mode and AP Mode as well, since those modes are already pretty docile and really don't need tweaking to reduce sensitivity. However, you will want other choices, such as 70% rate with a little expo, for Stability and Agility Modes. Last edited by flightengr; 12-27-2014 at 11:53 AM.. |

Here's a PDF and SPM file for the DX8 and the 350 QX2 or firmware version 2.
Summary of the controls: Switches F Mode and Rud D/R - Flight Mode ...F Mode position 0, Rud D/R anything = Smart Mode ...F Mode position 1, Rud D/R anything = AP Mode ...F Mode position 2, Rud D/R position 0 = Stability Mode ...F Mode position 2, Rud D/R position 1 = Agility Mode Flap Switch - Return to Home in position 2 only Mix Switch - Enable Stagility Mix (should only be used in Stability Mode) Trainer/Bind Button - Throttle Cut when pressed Gear Switch - Gimbal Tilt Mode (for GB200 gimbal) Knob - Tilt Gimbal (for GB200 gimbal) Not sure if this will matter or not, but the SPM file was made with the latest version of the DX8 firmware (3.01, Feb 2014). I don't think anything changed significantly in the last couple of years with the functions used in this model. NOTE: Click on the SPM file link below to get your browser to download it. You can't right-click the mouse and "Save Target As..." because the forum will give you a PHP file if you do that! |

Is there a way to do away with this mode all together? I've been flying "normally" for almost 4 decades and "Smart Mode/Relativity" control really screws with my poor small mind LOL. I'd like to remove that one and move the other 3 up a slot so to do away with having to use Rud D/R switch if possible. (Rudder any position) F Mode Pos 0 - AP Mode F Mode Pos 1 - Stability Mode F Mode Pos 2 - Agility Mode The reason I'd like to do this is I would like to try and make a RUD D/R setting that would allow me to use RUD control and it rotate the quad as if the RUD trim had been bumped just a click or two. I want to be able to make a very slow and controlled 360deg RUD rotation. Is this possible? Right now I do this by literally adding a couple clicks of RUD trim and once the 360deg is complete remove the RUD trim. One last comment: In the Stagility section when "testing" you state "With the mix on, moving the elevator or aileron stick should gradually move the value of GER from -100 to -125." but using the SPM file and MIX 1 RUD - 0 the resting value is -100 and full stick deflection is -130 RUD - 1 the resting value is -125 and full stick deflection is -150 RUD - 2 the resting value is -125 and full stick deflection is -150. What do suggest it be at at least for starters? Thank you for your help, guidance and support. Allen |

1. Go into the Function menu, and go to Servo Setup. We're going to change Travel, so that's OK. Scroll down to "Throttle" and change it to "Gear". With the F Mode switch in position 0, only the right-hand number on the screen should have a box around it. Change it from 100% to 0%. Next, flip the F Mode switch to position 2, and then the box should be around the left-hand number. Change that number from 100% to 125%. 2. Go to Mixing on the menu. We're going to change Mix 1 (assuming we're starting with my PDF/SPM file setup). Select the line that says "AIL > RUD" and change it to "Mix 1". Now change that mix to look like the following: Mix 1 GER > GER Rate: 0% 100% Offset: 80% Trim: Inh Switch: FM1 Normally, a three-position switch has a value of 0% in the middle position (position 1) no matter what you do to the Servo Travel. The Servo Travel only changes the values of positions 0 and 2. This mix basically adds 100% to the value of Gear when the F Mode switch is in position 1 ("FM1"). That frees up the RUD D/R switch. BTW, if you wanted to do something like this on a DX6/9/18, those transmitters have a function called Digital Switch Setup that lets you assign arbitrary values to any switch position. That eliminates the work above where you need to mess with travel and mixing. |

There is one catch - you have to preset which direction it's going to turn, either left or right. I can't think of a way to make it go both ways unless you put one direction on one switch and the other direction on a different switch. I'm also making an assumption that RTH will be off and therefore the Flap switch will be in position 0 when you do this. That's necessary because the mixing on the DX8 requires an "input" to the mix that's not 0. The Aux1 channel (RTH) is fine for that purpose, and this doesn't change anything about Aux1. It just gives the mix a starting reference point. So here's what you do: 1. Go into the Function menu and choose Mixing. Select an unused mix (such as Mix 4) and set it up like this: Mix 4 AX1 > RUD Rate: 5% 0% Offset: 0% Trim: Inh Switch: RUD D/R Set the rate to whatever you like. I used 5%, but a couple of clicks of trim might even be less than that. If the rate is positive, the quad will turn right. If the rate is negative (-5% for example) the quad will turn left. On a DX8, the mix function applies to both positions 1 and 2 on the RUD D/R switch; it doesn't discriminate between the switch positions. It's simply "on", as in not on "position 0". Like I said, if you wanted a choice of either left or right turn, you could add another mix (Mix 5) the same way and put it on a different switch. |

So speaking of rates, you probably want to add settings for "high rates" and "low rates". See the post above (reply # 6) for how to do that. You want a "high rates" setting of 100% rate and 0% expo. You could then have "low rates" and "mid rates" (since the DX8 has three-position switches) for settings such as this: low rate - 70% rate, 20% expo; mid rate - 85% rate, 10% expo. Rates are totally a matter of personal preference based on your experience and comfort with the model. You may or may not like Expo, and you may or may not want the "low rates" to be that low. Totally up to you. That 70% is usually a recommended starting point for low rates on a lot of models. Whether or not you want some expo with that is up to you. Another note - if you want to use the Stagility Mix, you only want to turn it on (Mix switch position 1) when you're in the Stability flight mode (base value of -100%). |

DX6 problem
These are great instructions. Tx for publishing them.
I'm have a problem with my DX6 (not 6i) tho. Whenever I go to the Digital Switch Setup menu and select Flight Mode or the switch value, set the 3 values for the gear channel and go back to list, the DSS resets itself to inhibit. For some reason in will not stay to to the switch/channel I assign it. Anybody have any ideas?

Never mind. Even though going back into DSS takes is back to inhibit like it's not set, the monitor screen shows the correct values and the lights on the 350QX match what I programmed it for.

For my purpose it doesn't matter if its left or right so having it on a single switch is perfect. When I hit the RUD D/R it makes a gentle Left Hand turn and I simply let it continue the turn until it's make 1 complete rotation. This is VERY handy for some of the video shoots I've been doing lately. Once again THANK YOU! Allen |

You know, I did the same double-take on the DSS settings as I was writing those docs. Too bad that initial screen of DSS doesn't have a way to indicate which switches have some DSS settings turned on. But yes, if you change "Inhibit" to the switch you're working with, you'll see that your settings were in fact changed.

Just set it up on my DX9 using a curve, I know the DX8 has 3 point programmable mixes, so maybe this will apply. -E- > RUD Expo: Inh Switch: On (three point curve= one point for each position) 1: -10% 2: 0% 3: 10% The switch is center (position 1) for normal flying, then up or down (positions0 & 2) to turn. |

Getting 4 out of 5 flight modes isn't as difficult, but I'd like to get all 5 if I can. |
