Default mSR losing power...

This mSR is a month old with 20 flights. A couple of flights ago the tail started getting a very brief "glitch" to it that happened a 5-6 times during the flight. Nothing uncontrollable, just a quick twitch of a few degrees.

On the last flight the tail twitch was more frequent, and it only flew about 60 seconds before it wouldn't stay aloft and settled to the ground. Thinking the battery was bad I loaded up a new one and it only lifted into ground effect and then settled back down. Both batteries were warmer than normal indicating a higher than normal current draw. I tried both batteries in an mCX and they were fine.

I assume the main motor is going bad, but would that also cause the tail twitch? Is it possible the tail motor is going out at the same time, or is it possibly the 5-in-1?

Thanks!

Yes, the main motor often "stutters" when the brushes begin to fail, sometimes only generating torque through a portion of its rotation. This will cause the twitching you described, since the tail motor isn't losing torque during the stuttering. Usually it will twitch/yaw to the right if the main motor is failing.

I am having the same problem with my MSR. It appears that the Main Motor is going out. At least that is what the local LHS seems to think. Main motor is on order at LHS. Gonna change that out as the first step. Cheaper then changing out the 5-1. Prolly would not do that if , that is what the problem is. Waiting for the 120 SR to come out this month.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to replace the motor, but none of the LHS have or seem to be able to get the motor. I guess I'll end up ordering one. My T-REX 450 build is keeping me busy for now, but I want to get my MSR fix again!

recently had twitch tail motions and reduced flying times. Notice the tail motor was warm even after very short flights. Put new tail/motor on and all is well.

Be sure to tell us all about it as soon as you get it (though the forum police will prolly make you move it to the 120 forum).
