Default First Flip !

Sorry guys I have to tell someone I've done my first flips tonight. I'm BLOWN AWAY

I was a bit windy but I thought stuff this I'm gonna do it crash or not. I strapped on a mini Pendrive camera to the canopy to record it for good measure.

I flew the bird around a few times to get the adrenalin going and got it as high as I dared without losing orientation then took a deep breath and BINGO Coooool...I managed one then I thought keep it going it was relatively easy. The motor was bogging a bit so I probably need more headspeed but apart from that I was a piece of cake.

I'm quite lucky as my house backs onto a small field so I can take off from by garden fly round the field and land back home without leaving the house. If you want to be bored here's a link to the video evidence of the complete flight (about 4 mins long) Note I aint no Szabo!:-

T-Rex first flip with HeliCAM (3 min 37 sec)

Cheers
Glenn

Ahhh yes now to make it stationary, collective mangement timing is one of the next biggest challenges for you. Have fun!

Congrats Glenn, first flips only happen once! :glasses2:

Could we get a link to that camera? I have one but the video quality isn't as good as yours, would love to learn more about yours.

Thanks!

Thanks for your kind words guys ! you Rock

For those who are interested how I took the video.

I used a mini digital camcorder made by Phillips model Key019 Digital Camcorder. Its a tiny pen drive type device that you can stick in your pocket and captures Mpeg video onto a 128mb flash drive.

I have mine mounted in a epp foam housing to absorb any bumps /vibration and just simply taped it to the canopy. Its solid enough for even mega fast piro's.

Note. The quality on Youtube is quite poor compared to the original its quite a nice bit of kit.

Here's a link to it on Philips :-

http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...17_US_CONSUMER

I'm at work now but if anyone is interested I'll post a picture of the setup on my T-Rex later.

Cheers
Glenn

OK I'm back from work I just had to have another flip frenzy ! I cant stop doing em now more video madness now hosted on my own space to preserve the quality a bit better :-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/glenn.r...lipMadness.wmv

Anyway the video camera is mounted in a foam box made from EPP the sort of stuff the new unbreakable shock flyers are made of (not depron). It serves the purpose of absorbing the bad vibes given off from the heli and also it should protect it in case of dumb thumbz syndrome. The unit was originally my brothers who used to strap it to planks but now it has a better purpose in life. The camera itself has been modified as the magnesium case was removed to save weight but this would'nt be required with the power of the T-Rex. All I did then was simply tape the foam protected unit to the canopy, really easy. It looks rough but it serves its purpose.

Cheers
Glenn

I do not think that I have ever not been able to find where to buy something, either online or local but I can seem to find ANYWHERE that sells this.

The Philips camera is probably around 2 years old now so I should imagine it is no longer manufactured. I suppose your best bet is look on ebay or similar to get hold of a used one. The quality is really good and it is very compact. I just charge it via the usb connector and away you go. I reckon you can store about 4 flights on it before having to download em to your PC.

Anyway back to Massive 3DZ  now I've started flipping (I'm a long way off perfection yet) what is next move to work up to ? any recommendations Helifreaks ?

Many Thanks
Glenn

ps Whats happend to ****** ? he's gone very quiet recently

Well, rolls go hand in hand with flips (and all 4 directions) so that is one thing to do. Any then tidying them all up.

A bit of inverted would come in amongst there soon. Half-flip/roll and give it a muck-around at height. (Drum in that pitch DOWN move to flip/roll out, safer). It is as scarey as the first flip/roll, all over again! Even a bit worse I guess.

I would like to do funnels, and that seems to be a good next step, but I can't work them out so far! So I consider them to be further up the difficulty line. Flips/rolls are just a beginning area and quite easy really - it is the FEAR factor of those early new moves that make them hard, when they are really very easy.
But funnels start to ask for more skillful input and balances of those - maybe not once you know them though! eg anyone can flip/roll with little effort, but funnels are way harder - at least for me.
And the aim is to do both nose and tail funnels. (Inverted funnels WAY later down the track!)
