Default Copterx Gy240 Gyro with Walkera 1#A

So, I thought I might be having problems with the gyro that came with the Walkera 1#A, so when I went to go buy a new Gyro for it, WOW said please do not buy this Gyro and instead buy the Copterx GY240 Gyro (Not like the Futaba Gyro) ...

Anyway, I replaced the gyro and did a few tests. I could barely get the tail to hold in Rate mode..(I had the tail setup mechanically) ..In Head Hold mode >50% , it seemed to hold ok, but, when I gave it rudder stick either left or right, it was almost uncontrollable in that it would swing around very fast either direction.. off the ground, it barely held at all.

A few minutes of muttling around with this Gyro, I put the original one back on which actually seems to work just fine.. What kind of setup is there with this GYro? The manual seems pretty straight forward.. I had the DS switch "on" and I made sure the tail rotor was working and spinning CCW and the rotors themselves pitched correctly with a swing of the tail..

I did the same as you with my 1#A. With the same results. IMO this gyro is a POS and WOW blew it on this one. I have not flowen this is a few months too busy with my TREX 500 and now building a TREX 450 Sport. I might pickup a gyro from xheli that they have for 12 bucks and try that one out it's only 12 bucks and it's the one they say to use on the EXI 450.

How is the gyro oriented, horizontally or vertically? If it's vertically, mount it horizontally in a different location and see if that helps.

I agree with John I think either your orientation mounting is wrong or the gyro "DIR" dipper needs reversing from its current position. Might be worth noting as well. I have a GY240 that came with a CopterX kit I built for a friend. I never used it after reading some stuff about it burning out tail servo's. Perhaps though it could have been a setup error on the complaintants part, who knows.

Well, I dumped the servo that came with the 1#A as I was losing tail servos left and right.. I guess it was frying them out. The CopterX Gyro is mounted vertically (The words are left to right)..mounted correctly from what I can tell.. and I did reverse the switch which helped alot..but I have since swapped out the receiver and gyro...used an AR6100 RX with a G110 HH gyro from an on blade SR I had.. that works fairly well..Unfortunately, I have too much vibration in the main rotor which appears to be monkeying with the stability of the Gyro.. gotta get all fixed 1st.. In which case, I may just dump it all and convert it to a FBL.

Default 1#A gyro

I bought the same gyro for my 1#A, but haven't installed it yet. Interesting to hear all of this news, as WOW really pushes this gyro. I had already replaced mine with the WK GO11 from a HIKO 400, which I also have. The tail holds "ok", but not solid. Has anyone come up with the right combo for the Copter X gyro yet?
Thanks!

I know the HK401B works well with it. You have to mount it in the nose near the RX, it does not mount on the wall the stock gyro is mounted on.
