Default Damaged Motor or ESC

Well, after the "dive" now I found out that the motor and/or ESC is not working.
How can I make sure which one is damaged. Do not have a spare to test.

Always been a tricky one but more often than not it would be the ESC. Does the ESC initialise, do all the external components look in tact? Will the motor rotate freely as it should.

Not a single beep.
The motor rotates freely and does not smell burnt.

Its working!!!!!!
The heli landed in a puddle of mud.
So today I took the ESC appart cleaned it well (had some mud/dirt residue) and cleaned the motor with electrical cleaner.
Hooked everything up and worked fine.
Lucky me.
