Default What ESC should I use???

Ok so i'm looking at getting a Fusion 50. I've pretty much got all my electronics sorted out, except for the ESC.
I'm planning on running a 12s setup so which esc should I use?
Is it safe to use cc ice2? I can't really justify buying a jive, so maybe hobbywing?
Any help would be appreciated

i'm a bit reluctant about using cc after all the reports of fires. I heard that the ice2 didn't really fix the problem. Is this true?

To find a properly balanced argument on the CC line of ESCs is pretty hard at the moment. Another one to consider is the YGE. From what I understand the YGE and HW work really well with external govs such as on the Vbar. Scorpion have just released the Commander V 50V which looks really neat especially as it is pre wired for external govs. The Scorpion has really twigged my interest I must say.

I haven't heard any reports of the new ones burning except for a guy running a severely over geared 700 on a 120 with current limiting turned off.I am running an ice hv 80 on 12 s and its perfect

Even so, I think I'll go with a hobbywing. Will the 70hv work ok or should i go for the 100hv

It will depend on your motors current draw. What motor are you using?

Hobbywing is a good choice... but I would get 2 of right off the bat. They have their issues with burn-up also (usually upon initial install, first spool up, they may blow). If you get past that... they work beautifully. You're pretty much assured a good one out of the 2.

I have a YGE 90hv in mine, it even has a built in phase sensor for the vbaaaaaar gov as well.

Don't forget to price in a bec when looking at kontronics price, almost all escs need an external BEC to power the system but the kontronic one can cope with flybarless helis.

I have CC ICE2 ESCs on all of my birds, save the X5, and I haven't had any problems. i did read one report of an ICE2 120 burning up but that turned out to be a bad motor/esc pairing. Some of the newer 45 and 50 series motors MUST have 160+ and I think he was trying to get buy on a 120.

That being said, i have to agree with the others, the HW and YGE are great options. If I had the money, I would run Kontronic on ALL my birds, but even adding a good BEC, they KONTRONIC is WAY more expensive than the HW and CC units.

AS for your question about size, I run the 80A with my Outrage 4125-560 motor and I haven't seen a sustained amp draw over 60, peaks yes, but sustained no. I would think the 70HV would be enough, but if the cost difference isn't a deal breaker, get the 100 just to be safe.

I use the Jive 80HV. Best esc governor out there and best BEC as well so no need for flight packs or external BEC. And of course rock solid quality etc.

Kaveeth,

Oh yeah...forgot to ask.... will you be running an external gov.?
If NOT, the HW 70HV (Platinum) is the one to get. If you go with the 100HV (Pentium series) it DOES NOT have the internal gov that the Platinum series DOES. The Platinum series gov works pretty well too... sure it's not on-par with say... VBar or Kontron... but it works every bit as well as the CC.

Just things to consider....

I'm wondering about this as well. I have 80hv v2 for mine and im hesitant to use it cause of the fire concern. I run a hw120 on my 700e and a 70hv on my 600pro and love em both and have had no issues as of yet. So I'm debating if I should just sell the 80hv and just get another 70hv. But Castle did state, if it catches on fire, send it back and they'll give you a free one.(ROLLING MY EYES WITH A PASSION)

No I don't plan to run an external gov so I guess I should go with the 70HV then. I'm gonna put a beastX fbl unit on it, at least at first, so having a governor in the esc would be good.
Thanks

Go with a 70hv. They are stock on a compass 6hv. Runs great with fbl units like a vbar or skookum. Invest in a 2 in 1 program box so that you can upgrade to turnigy's 1.07 firmware that enables better slow starts.

If you want to spend more money, yge makes great escs. And the scorpions look nice also.

But my money would be spent on a 70hv then use the savings on a 9188 tail servo.
