Default DataPod - first impressions

Today I went to my friend's house and tested the DataPod on his 450Pro with Quark gyro. I sold my Quarks last year when I converted to FBL, but he hasn't switched over yet. He was kind enough to let me use his equipment to test things out.

The DataPod is a very compact unit and very easy to use. Connecting it to the Quark was very simple using the supplied cable. All that was required was to disconnect the Quark's gain lead from the receiver and plug it into the DataPod. Then connect the supplied cable between the DataPod and the now vacant receiver channel. Upon connecting the flight pack, the DataPod came to life with the rest of the heli's electronics.

A flash screen came up nearly immediately, and then the LCD displayed the name of the connected device, in this case the Quark. The screen indicated it was in "idle" mode, which basically meant the DataPod was waiting for user inputs.

Upon pressing one of the buttons on top of the unit, the main menu was displayed. From this point, tapping the + or - buttons allowed for scrolling up or down through the menu list. All that was needed to enter a specific menu was to press the "S" button. Once in a particular menu, using the + or - buttons resulted in adjustments to the parameters of the menu. Pressing the "S" button saved the changes and exited to the main menu list.

Basically every adjustment that could be made through the Gyro Setup Software could also be made with the DataPod. The primary difference I noticed between the two interfaces dealt with Acceleration and Deceleration profiles. Where the computer software has a slider with only "Slow" and "Fast" descriptors on each end, the DataPod gives a number value. I found that each mark along the slider was the equivalent of 10 points on the DataPod.

I found the DataPod to be very user-friendly with the Quark. I'm anxious to use it with the VX1 as well as in the field this year helping others with the Quark, tweaking their settings, etc. Here are some pics to show how the menu list looks for the Quark. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase of this unit.

+1 from the Friend

In my opinion the Datapod makes setting up the best gyro even easier! Also looking forward to using it with the Vortex VX 1

Here is a photo from when I "tested" it by incorrectly connecting it to the Quark(reading the DataPod screen made me laugh)

Awesome product, a job well done Angelos

That was funny, Nate! After this thread, you no longer have anonymity.

Yes, but my excuse is that I wasn't at my own computer.

Here's a screen shot of what should have been a screen shot.

The firmware that ships now has a sad face too! I'll sort out the Update Tool so you guys can load the new firmware on it.

I am very pleased to read that you like it.

Cheers,
Angelos

I passed on asking for one of these as I sold my last Quark a few weeks ago and figured others might actually have a use for it, glad to see others are having great success
Looking forward to trying one out with the VX-1
