I have masters degree in 3D and aiming for PhD, along with over 15 years of experience in 3D, so think I am qualified.

On mcpx I use 5% and 100% rates. On 250 I use 5% and 100% rates. On my mini protos FBL I use -15% but it feels like -50% because of other FBL settings (this is on futaba radio).

The bottom line is: Use whatever expo feels good for you.

p.s. 3D graphics.

How does the use of Expo compare to using flybar weights... am I right in thinking that the flybar weights dampen the rate of change of blade pitch?

I am a beginner.

I don't like expo at all.

I will turn down the overall rate until I'm comfortable.

I find the non-linearity of expo makes flying much harder.

I like a linear response.

Mp, it's already been mentioned a little bit of expo actually makes things more linear unless you are using linear servos. So again it just comes down to taste.

The mCP x was my first CP heli as well. The default 70-30 cyclic settings were way to nimble while learning my orientations in the tight confines of my house. especially coming from an mSR where you had to make pretty aggressive stick movements to do anything.

So I started at 30-10 until I got my upright orientations, once I was comfortable with those I started to gradually work my way to 100-10. Since then the only change I've made is taking the travel on my rudder from 100 to 125 in both directions.

But as others have said, you just got to find what works best for you and the way you want to fly. As your skill increases most likely your opinions will change on what the best settings are.
Even though the mCPX uses linear servo's the surfaces it controls are not. What 1mm of servo travel near mid stick makes, will not be the same as 1mm servo travel close to full stick, in relation to the blades, not control linkage. In reality, a regular servo heli is closer to linear as both control, and controlling surfaces travel in arcs. The mCPX would be one that is in the most need of Expo to become linear., mathmatically speaking of corse.

"a little bit of expo actually makes things more linear"
I'm confused here. expo is not linear, its non-linear.
