I'm running a Jive 80 HV, and I haven't experienced any issues with this motor yet. I don't fly that hard, but my collective management is so poor my logs look like I do.

I am running KSA mode upon Patrick's recommendation.

To be clear, I am not claiming these motors have a problem. Just mine seems to. It didn't at first, however.

Yeah, it remains to be seen how my stuff holds up during the hot summer months.

I can tell by his motor temps that tshreve is beating that thing like a red-headed step child. Definitely more abuse than I am currently capable of.

I'll be flying it on a cc 80hv so we will see how it holds up.

That is neato that there is a dedicated KDE forum, but what then goes in all the "[brand x] Upgrades and Accessories" forums?
The t-rex 600 Upgrades and Accessories forum has an record smashing 9 threads.
...and 4 of them are KDE.
Going to move those here too? Then what is the purpose of the upgrade forums?

I'm not sure anyone will read this now that we have sufficiently obfuscated this thread, but I will babble on indignantly.

YGE is rejecting warranty status on my 90HV ESC,
Quote:
we checked your burned controller and the reason seems to be a motor defect because after about 200 flights it is not a manufacturer defect.
Please ckeck your KDE motor on phase and ground short circuit and magnet or ball bearing defect.
I placed my 600MX back in and flew the piss out of it. No problems. The Scorpion ESC was barely warm.

So it seems my KDE motor has some issues?
$270 motor made my $275 ESC fail

Sorry to hear this. Have you checked whether your motor is shorted? KDE motor has protector to stop the mounting bolts hitting the wires. Hope you get this figured out.

Good luck

There is an open between each lead and any part of the motor.
Between leads is super low (milliohm range) as expected.
Not sure what else I can test for.

It is really odd because it flies good until I load it hard and then the ESC barfs (or explodes as my YGE did). Most of me wants to say it's not possible or something else. But results are hard to argue with.

What do you mean by "open" between the lead and any part of the motor?
Check out this video by MeMel

On both of mine, there's no reading when one probe is on the lead and another probe is one the motor shaft (or the motor can). The reading on mine is 0 when the probes touches the motor leads.

Hope this helps

Dang, if I had a spare Jive I'd send it to you for testing. Thought I might too, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

Hey Steve -

I just sent you an e-mail and not sure what's going on for you - I don't have any experience with the YGE series personally, so I can't comment on their capability. The 600XF-530 is a very high-performance capable motor (some customers are even using it on lighter 700-series helicopters), so there's no doubt it will strain the power system when asked to.

Sounds to be worth testing the motor at our facility and if we find an issue, get you swapped out with a brand-new unit to get you back flying again. If you tested the motor for shorts and such, then there isn't much of a chance there's a problem with the motor. An internal short would be the predominant method that could cause an ESC failure for any brand.

Thanks,
Patrick

Teshreve, am i understanding you correctly that you get continuity between the motor leads and the motor case?

If so then that's why your ESC died...

Just uploaded to YouTube the introductory flight-videos of the KDE600XF-530 motor on both the 600E PRO and 550E helicopters and the helicopters were definitely pushed hard. As a reference, the 600E PRO is running a CC ICE2 HV120 and the 550E is running a CC ICE2 HV80 on the latest 4.01 BETA firmware.

Default Megger

Hey Teshreve,

Do you have access to a megger? That is the best way to test the motor's insulation. The test shown in the video is likely only using about 9v for the continuity test.

Default Motor

BTW,

Patrick, congrats on the board. Nice to have you back.

Sorry I haven't commented earlier but the replacement motor arrived in Texas on time. I installed it and the vibrations are all but gone. You can see them here in post #70:

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...=396289&page=7

Thanks again.

Scotty

Thanks for the video. That is exactly what I did to test.
"open" in electrical parlance means no continuity. Air gap resistance.

I just retested everything again with my trusty Fluke multimeter. All leads to all parts of motor have "no reading" as Mr. Mel calls it. Or open

I don't, sadly. And they don't appear to be cheap.
I used one extensively in the Navy. All the new guys got "tested" with one. OUCH!

When you are stuck on a ship floating about the place for 6 months, entertainment standards become fairly low. Shocking the beejesus out of unsuspecting people was easily in the top 5, right behind telling newbs to go get some relative bearing grease (or my personal fave, a BT punch from the machine shop (double ouch!)).

Default Soooo

I just put my KDE 600 motor in, set the settings for my HV80 to the settings in this post. How is everyone else's working? Any tips or recommendations. I feel the motor is very smooth, my old 600MX had over 600 flights and probably wasnt the smoothest. Just bumping this thread for some input!!

Thanks Ned
