Default Quality brands of helis besids Align?

I'm new and just trying to learn as much as I can about the hobby. Align seems to be the premier brand of rc heli, but what other companies make models of comparable or possibly better quality?

Thumbs up

IMHO one of the best Bang for you Buck helis is the Gaui X5.
Great 550 size heli with proven track record - no upgrades needed & can be tame or manic.

How does this heli perform compared to a Trex 550e?

Align certainly isn't the premier brand-it is simply the best-selling.The quality is pretty good for the price,so it is seen as a good overall value. At least most of it's helis are looked at that way.Not the top of the heap, and not at the bottom either.

I fullheartedly agree. I wouldn't say the Align brand was a premier heli whatsoever though. More like the McDonalds of helis. And every one plagued with design and quality issues we see posting of over and over and over........

And yes, I am qualified to comment. I own fully upgraded versions of them that I spent thousands in design changes and custom upgrades to rectify their shortcomings on. If I had it all over to start with, I would buy anything on Smsodhi's list but an align..

Thunder Tiger. The Raptor series used and still is up there as a great design and performer, my understanding. The Titan series is supposed to replace the Raptor I believe.

But, as you can see from my signature, Eflite/Blade is almost all I own and fly and I do feel I've gotten excellent value, if not top quality, from my purchases. I've gotten the quality I expected with Blade. In none of my Blade purchases did Horizon Hobby fool me into thinking I was purchasing a $1500.00 quality helicopter. Some might claim post-purchase that the Blade SR has a total lifetime cost to retirement of $1500.00 in the hands of a noob.

Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla my not be the top quality cars on the road but you see a lot more of em than you do the top quality models and I'd argue same for Blade-at least at the beginner level.

The blade mCPx introduction is probably the most significant helicopter event of 2011. The blade mCPx will more influence this hobby than the top 10 quality helicopters combined. I own 3 of em-the mCPx.

have personal experience with Align , eflight, compass helis. Align in my opinion are pretty darn good helis my 600 pro is a great flying machine loads of power very stable entirely stock besides the dfc head.
Compass very good quality build havent flown yet but looks to be very good quality.
Eflight depends on what you the intent of your purchase if you buy an SR for hard 3d wont do so well but for learning its great. 450 3d great heli , quality of components is good different materials plastic instead of Carbon fiber but it all breaks in a good crash anyway.
