Default pic heavy general finishing tips

just some pics of the heli, final setup and little things i did to clean up the wiring and make the overall setup more user friendly.

I didnt really run into any snags on the maiden other than the need to really smoothen out the plastic bits on the tail assembly -- to get rid of any possible binding (took a while!! to get it perfect for a wag free tail). when you "think" its smooth, make it smoother.. quite annoying actually, wish it was a better tail assembly.

Cool pics.. What does that remote receiver wire do? I have Futaba S Bus, I figured you just disconnected the battery and then powered off the trans like a normal heli. Are people using receiver switches or something?

you mean the rx extension i added ? it allows to connect a rx pack to the vbar and not power up the motor/esc.. so you can do setup easy and not have to disconnect the motor/esc wires.

Ahh.. Ok, so, can you set up the ESC without the Main LIPO connected? Or, is that just for setting up the VBAR. THats a handy idea. Just a splitter off the Rx right?

Setup the vbar without the main lipo connected (esc has no power). its not a splitter. just an extra batt port on the vbar.

Ok, I get it now.. Thanks!

I am wiring mine up now. The power has been out for three days and no Internet at home so it is going slowly.

Why did you ground boom + ESC?

The Mini and P500 are carbon reinforced conductive frames and tail assembly. There's continuity and thus don't require grounding.

i was getting good continuity from the boom to motor mount but not from tail to motor mount. this fixed it. that belt produces a lot of static - esc grounding is a good idea in general and per vbar recommendation. Im not saying its required, but no harm in being on the safe side. plus i dont really have to spray the belt with silicone every 5-10 flights after this.

Continuity with what?

A multimeter wont tell you much, the test voltage is usually 9V. Static needs to built to 10s of kV before it can spark (the spark is what causes problems). What shows as no continuity at 9V could be quite conductive at 10kV.

You need a HV insulation tester to be sure (1/2000V) and there have been no reports of static issues with the mini P (there were some with older protos but they still had the whole boom painted).
