Default What is the best voltage for running V-bar

I watched your video 5 on power distribution. You mention that if your reciever outputs both a tail (5v) and cyclic (8v) you have to use only one of the voltages. In the video you said to run the tail signal into the vbar and then send the 5v from the reciever directly to the tail servo. I have been looking at running HV servos on a electic heli. I want to use the flight pack and a BEC to step the voltage down to 8 or 7.4 volts for the cyclic but I like my JR8900G tail servo that runs at 4.8 volts. I think I can run the v-bar at the higher voltage (v-bar manual says input can be up to 8.4 volts) and use a regulator after the v-bar before the tail servo to step the tail voltage down to 5v or 4.8v.

couldn't I also step the 8 volts down to 5v before the v-bar and send the 8v from the BEC directly to the cyclic servos and just have the signals come out of the v-bar for the cyclic servos? I plan on running 2 JR sat RX's off the v-bar.

Which voltage is best for the v-bar? I have heard from a local (non-vbar person) that v-bar does not like higher voltages.

Am I over thinking this?

I found this video in MrMel's Heli Site. I think MrMell hasn't posted this video to the forum.

Hello

I have watched all the videos related to governor setup, and followed them ... and it is working fine on my Trex450 with miniV, Castle Lite 50, HW sensor, 6s with Scorpion 2221 motor.

I used 5.2 setup video. My software/firmware is 5.3 Pro .... they worked fine, I think 5.2/5.3 are very similar to each other for basic setup.

BUT for advanced, the video looks different from the UI of the 5.3. Is there any information/video for the settings to use (please refer to attached file, the questions I have are for Red/Yellow/Green/Blue lines. What values should I be using, and what do they do?

Thank you in advance ... Karma

Why are all the videos private? That seems kinda useless.

Nope. Its primary purpose is for troubleshooting when sending the unit in for service, so it wouldn't do any good to allow a user to clear it.

Many thanks to Mr Mel for these great videos. They helped me setup three V-Bar systems without almost any problems...

Well, I had one annoying problem left: my Trex 600N would sometimes exhibit a fast tail shake on the way out of large fast loops.

By reading the tuning guide and watching the Advanced tail tweak episode 5, it turns out the only change needed was to modify P and I gain from their default values 80 and 60. By changing these to 75/75 and reducing pre-comp as the video suggests, with no other changes, (i) I got rid of the occasional fast tail shake, and (ii) it also holds even better during fast pitch pumps.

The only reason I haven't done this sooner is I didn't want to mess with a pretty good setup by changing these somewhat intimidating advanced parameters. I can't think of anything else that needs tweaking at the moment, but I'll be less worried about delving into the advanced parameters now

After watching MrMel's video (), I have a question about the Trim sub-menu within Setup menu. From MrMel's video, he used Swash Tab: Cyclic buttons to level the swashplate. What I learnt from other FBL controllers: we use swashplate leveler (or similar tool) and servo-swashplate linkage adjustment to achieve level swashplate.

We don't need that kind of adjustment (mechanically) in Vbar ?

What about 0 pitch adjustment - using Collective buttons or turning the linkage between inner swashplate and blade grips ?

Thanks.

I use it to set the servo arms to 90 degrees. I then use linkage lengths to do the final leveling. It really doesn't matter much with FBL whether the swash is mechanically level; the VBar will make whatever swash adjustments it needs to do to maintain the commanded flip rate, roll rate, or collective response.

Zero pitch adjustment needs to be done with the linkages.

Great, thank you for the clarification.

After watching Episode 19, I have a question about using satellite port to provide power to RPM sensor. MrMel did mention that if HV system was used, we could use satellite port to provide power to the RPM sensor (an alternative).

Last night, I measure the voltage of satellite port (pin 1 and 2, counting from the servo port side). Voltage was about 3.25V when I used a 6.6V LiFe battery connected to RXB port.

The 3.25V was not enough to drive the RPM sensor. Do I need to use 2S LiPo battery 7.4V to Mini Vbar in order to get a higher voltage out of the satellite port ?

The voltage out of the satellite ports is regulated, so increasing the input voltage won't help.

However, since you're running a LiFe pack, you should be able to run a diode, maybe two in series to be safe, inline with power coming from the pack to drop the voltage for the sensor. If you have a full sized VBar, you could just make up a short extension cable with the diodes inline and plug into the Sensor II port without the need for an extra power wire.
