Mounting the NAZA H GPS Module at an angle

Does anyone know if the GPS module can be mounted at slight angles to the heli mechanics, or must it be on a parallel line?

Have you tested like this?

If it were just the GPS you might get by with a slight angle, but the GPS puck also contains the compass and I don't think that I would like that at an angle.

I had also posted this question on another forum and a well known pilot replied saying that he has two mounted at small angles and they work. I am going to try it myself and see how it responds. I do agree that too steep an angle will mess up the compass.

I will try to remember to post my findings here so future pilots with this question may stumble on this and have an answer.

Because the NAza has a compass in it an magnetic north is different than true north, I use the NOAA.org web site to find the magnetic deviance and then set the gps puck off to that degree. Here in Seattle we are 17* off true north buy in Oklahoma city they only 5* off so set the gps puck off according to you magnetic deviation in you area.

Hey 300c, thanks for that info. I have read that somewhere else and actually found a US map that shown how the magnetic deviance looked. Might even be the one listed.

What I was looking for was level does the GPS/Mag module need to be relative to the heli. I found out it could be at an angle of 10 degrees and it would still calibrate fine. I did NOT fly the heli to see how well it worked. Mostly because I ended up mounting the GPS module in a different spot than originally planned. So now it is level in reference to the mechanics. But I think it would still work if off a few degrees +/- from level.

I also found another thing anyone who will be flying with a fuselage, as I am, to watch out for the magnets that hold the top and bottom fuse halves together. This one got me for a couple nights.
