Default Damn the luck!

The new props I ordered came in the mail. Ordered the graupner eprops 11x5 and gemfan nylon/carbon 11x5.
Put the graupners on the new heavy lift kit motors from AMP and took it for a test flight.
Did a couple of punch outs straight up. Wow what a difference. Flew it back a forth putting it through its paces. It really moves now. Was bringing it in to land, brought it to a hover at about 10', then one of the props separated. It dropped like a rock and landed upside down.
I was lucky as all that was damaged was 4 props and the landing gear.
Took a look at the prop and where it separated and saw there are numerous small bubble cavities in the material.
Was disappointed, but I guess I was due for a prop malfunction, as I had yet to have one. And the damage could have been worse.

Wow! You are so lucky that didn't break at altitude!

Bummer,I just ordered a set of those eprops from Germany for my R0sewhite quad. I sure hope they don't come apart like yours... I was really looking forward to getting them until now.

Yeah, the graupners were almost $12 each http://www.quadrocopter.com/Graupner...x5-_p_306.html
vs. the gemfans at almost $6 each http://www.helidirect.com/gemfan-nyl...cs-p-31732.hdx
I realize there are going to be the occasional defect, it just sucks when you're the one that gets it.
The props come with a disclaimer about the rpm. 4000 / diameter = max rpm.
My case 4000 / 0.28 m = 14,286 rpm.
16.8v (full charge on 4S) x 770kv motor = 12,936
I'm well under the max so I should have been fine.
I found a post on another forum from 2009 that showed the same bubbles that were present in mine.

Forgot to add, the graupners were pretty spot on balanced all around, the gemfans were just a little heavy on one blade, and the hubs were good on some, and needed just a little attention on others.

Sorry to hear about your props. Maybe an email to where you got them or to Graupner them self to get a replacement set. I have three sets if them and not one issue. They fly great.

yeah, I had ordered a couple of extra sets so I just replaced the broken props, gave the copter a good once over, braced the landing gear and continued flying.
Going to try the gemfans and dji 10x3.8's tomorrow just for s & g's.

I like the gemfan composites as much as the graupners. I seen a video on the dji 10x3.8 the where beat to hell and did not break they flexed a lot tho.
