I know this is a simple question, but what is glass fiber? Is it fiberglass?? I've never seen this as an option for the 450 so I don't know much about it. Is it weaker than CF? Heavier? It seems to me like the CF was prefered before the static/brownout problems started.

PS - Anyone have a pic of their GF frame?

it is fiberglass. nothing special...just fiberglass. the rest of the non-u.s. calls it glass fiber.

it's heavier and not as strong as CF, though probably negligibly in our application. why use it? it's cheaper.

Yes, GF is Glass Fiber, same as fiberglass. It's non-conductive, similar to stuff use for PC board (without the copper). For the same thickness as CF, GF is a little heaver and a little more flexible.

All the 500 that has Silver color frame is GF frames.

Been told it's glass fiber. If so should be probably renamed "silver carbon fiber LOOK".

The earliy 450 "silver" frames was a mixture, carbon fiber inside, glass fiber outside to get the silver look. They later came out with "silver glass fiber" where it was 100% GF

Not really doubting you, but how can you tell. I have split apart a few broken pieces of the silver carbon fibre, and it looks the exact same has the fiber glass. Does the 450 silver frame conduct the smae as the black carbon frame?

yes. carbon fiber is black. period.

some carbon plate manufacturers offer 'colored CF', but, if it has any CF content at all, it is woven in with the colored glass, or layered in a lamination below the GF which can be colored.

there is an official name for this stuff, the name just escapes me at the moment.
