After some looking I found this was due to static. I used a jumper wire to go from the tail box to the motor mount. Ran it up to speed on the ground with no problem. Took the jumper off and within 20 second had a warm start.
So those with a metal tail case take caution. Static may become an issue.
I had static problems even with the stock plastic tail case. I now fly with the Lynx metal tail case. Metal or plastic, it doesn't matter. The tail boom is still ungrounded because it goes into a plastic frame. Silicone lube will fix this. I spray some into the cap and paint it on the belt with a small hobby paint brush. It's probably overboard, but I do it every 30 days or 30 flights, whichever comes first. It only takes a few seconds and, as a side benefit, it keeps the belt nice and supple.

I am not sure how many flights I had with the plastic case with out a problem. I have the Lynx case on it now. Maybe it has something to do with the weather here. Any way I am going to get some silicone lube or do like on the Logo with the anti-static wire. Just something for everyone to think about.

The anti-static wire from the boom to the motor mount is the best and most permanent way, but I've been too lazy to do it on my 450X. The silicone lube really does work well and it lasts a long time. I don't know why, but for some reason I forgot to keep lubing my belt last winter. It gets very cold and dry here in the winter and static is everywhere. I zap the heck out of myself just getting out of the car sometimes. Blankets with any wool content will light up like a lightning storm at night. It still took months for me to start having static problems after the last time I'd lubed the belt. That's when I went to the 30 day/30 flight routine and started including belt lubing in my flight log for that heli. Previously, I'd just lubed the belt whenever I thought about it and didn't keep any schedule for it. Thankfully, I got very lucky and the AR7200BX freak outs didn't cause any crashes.

I got me a ground wire fixed up. I took the Lynx tail case lose and took the boom to bare metal. I did the same under the aluminum tail servo mount. From there I ran a wire to the motor mount. I now have continuity from the tail case to the motor mount. It is very close to the Mikado setup. It should take care of the static.

I put 3 packs through it today. It is flying nice. It seems the wire took care of the static.

I have been flying the 450 a bit more the past few days. I just started on my second pack today. My flight crew "my 7 year old son" heard the sound as soon as I did. What is that? I got it o the ground with no problem. When I got to it the first thing I saw was only 1 tail blade. Guess I was lucky to get it on the ground at all. The bolt was still in the grip.

Default My build.

I put 4 more packs through it this afternoon, I think this is about the best that it has flown since I first put it in the air.

I'm using that while waiting for my scorp 1880kv motor to arrived ( sitting on my desk at work this morning!!).

It's not bad, it will give you long flight times, great if you fly sport/mild 3d (5.30 - 6 min flights).
