Hi guys. This thread has been a little quiet lately so I thought I'd post my latest of my completely stock 500X. Unfortunately I'm not a crack 3D guy (getting' a little too old and the reflexes aren't what they used to be) but I like smooth stuff like on the low head speed videos. Thanks for watching.

Nice! I gotta tell you... When I watch smooth precise flying like this video, THAT is what I aspire to do myself as a relative newcomer in this hobby. The herky-jerky extreme 3D convulsion maneuvers do nothing for me personally. I realize there's serious skill involved with both types of flying, but yours is the style of flying I find most satisfying. Cool video.

Thanks guys. That was my last flight of the evening so I just sort of took it easy. That is most definitely my style. I have nothing against the crack 3d guys and agree that it takes a lot of practice to fly the maneuvers but for me smooth has more appeal.

Thanks brokenwing40. I'm not a big sim guy so my progress isn't as fast as others but I'm still having fun.

I was able to get out yesterday morning and get the weekend started off right by running a few packs through my 450X and my 500X.

Have to agree with a couple of other posters, as a newbie I really enjoyed your style of flying and hope one day to be as accurate and smooth as you are

I've been trying something a little different and for the past 20 flights or so have been flying my 500X with 4s/2600 40c packs instead of 6s packs. While it definitely lacks the punch and raw power of flying with 6s packs it is very flyable and very enjoyable to fly it on 4s. What is really cool is that the helicopter is very quiet and flies smooth as butter and I am getting 7 minute flights. According to Mr. Mel's head speed calculator the head speed of the 500X on 6s packs is around 3,200 rpm while the head speed with 4s packs is around 2,100 rpm. I am running the stock 13T pinion and the only change I made was to bump the tail gain up from 37% to 42%. By switching to the 4s packs it dropped about 5-1/2 ounces of weight. Surprisingly the tail holds ok in backwards flight but collective management is a must. I got a little sloppy yesterday at the end of a pack and tumbled it in from low altitude. Not much damage and it will be ready to go as soon as parts arrive.

Hey man, keep an eye on that tail, you have the dreaded tail growl and it's gonna eat bearings like mad if you don't address it.

I got a few flights on my mostly-stock Blade 500 3D this morning. To re-iterate a post I made in the 300X forum... I think it's time for me to get a bigger, more powerful, more precise bird with more pop. Even though I'm no where near James Hayley's 500 3D demo flight, it's starting to feel like I can't really do much more with it. If Blade hadn't discontinued the 500 lineup, I'd happily install a bigger motor and ESC on it, but I can't see the point in spending money upgrading a discontinued model, especially considering it's flybarred. But it's been a great little bird to practice with and is also my first flybarred bird, so it's been a great learning experience. The only upgrades I've done to it are the metal tail grips, Savox 1290MG tail servo, and GY520 gyro. For a while I was eying a 550 size as my next bird, but I think it's time I simply go for the big guns and jump into the 700 size. I'm currently eying the Compass 7HV Ultimate, but am not positive yet. I admittidly wouldn't mind giving the Blade 700X a try, but I guess I'll see what's hot when I'm finally able to click the "checkout" button. I've heard some really good things about the "Pro" lineup from Blade, so it's definitely something I'll consider. Work is a little slow right now, so I'm a bit limited in how much I can spend on the hobby at the moment.

Training - Blade 500 3D - 07/22/14 (3 min 50 sec)

Default Testing out new gopro

i got a gopro for xmas , so here i am testing it with my 500 3D

i had one previous video but the FOV was too wide and the heli appeared too small. this was shot at 1080p 90fps (dropped to 60fps by youtube) and narrow FOV.

Heli is a stock 3D minus the Kbar and 500x head assembly.

Blade 500 3D (flybarless convert) (4 min 22 sec)

Smile A bit more comfortable

I'm getting a little more confident with this heli but I'll admit that it still gives me a decent case of the shakes! I think a lot of it is due to my low number of flights on it, coupled with the long spacing between those flights.

I just ordered 2 more packs so hopefully with 3 packs I can get in some decent back to back flights and help combat the nerves.
