My N820 quest
I've decided to go 800-size and will post everything about it in this thread.
After the initial frustration of finding many of the necessary parts out of stock I found the E820 parts in stock at experiencerc.com and the edge 813 blades at rcbits.com.au I'm currently waiting for delivery of these bits: E820 boom E820 torque tube Torque tube bearings E820 boom support E820 tail pushrod Edge 813 main blades Edge 115 tail blades My plan is to test with the stock main gear and 20% nitro with my OS105HZR. If power becomes a problem I will re-gear and perhaps increase nitro %. I'm aiming for a smooth and stable big heli for big-air aerobatic flight. Will update with pictures and my thoughts as I get the thing together.

My edge 813s are still a couple of days away and a buddy of mine had some align 800 blades spare. I have them a shot, even though it was almost dark.
In short: Heli seemed HUUUGE all of a sudden Took a tiny bit longer to spool up Just hovering and doing climbouts etc the gov could have done with a tiny bit more gain, other than that didn't seem like there was much more load on the engine. Heli seemed to respond very quickly to changes of pitch. STABLE!!! .....did I mention the heli is huge now? I'll post back when I've had a proper fly with the edge blades! Very very encouraging results so far!

So, its a stretched G4 or is there more to it than that. Are the G4 and E820 canopies interchangeable.

The E820 is 99.9% a stretched G4.
The E820 has different: Frame holes allow room for 115t main gear Frame holes allow extra mounts for tail supports Changed boom-alignment method inside tail case (apparently) Thicker FBL arms Bell-cranks that mount outside of the frames Reinforced bearing blocks And of course the 800 stuff: Big boom Big boom supports Bigger blades Bigger canopy that comes closer to the swash and further back Lucky for me the G4.1 has all of the same minor upgrades as the e820, except the 800 stuff!

Canopies are interchangeable except the 820 needs 2 extra mounting posts which won't fit under the normal g4 one.

In your first post you said if power is lacking that you would re-gear. How are you going to do that if you already have the 115 tooth main gear?

The g4.1 can accept the 115 gear but doesn't come with one for some reason.
I don't think I'll need to but I could get the 115 or a benario custom gear.

I would recommend you go with the Benario 115t main gear and also ask him to make you a 24t tail drive gear..............Especially if you are going to do LHS. That's the setup I'm running on my E820. Run as low as 1100 rpms and up to 1650.

I'm quite keen on the Benario gear. What makes it better than the normal 115T?

It does look big. Show us a photo with the canopy.
I think you may want the 115 tooth main gear, depending on how you fly and how much collective pitch you run. How does it auto? Have you ever tried slope soaring? |

Big canopy hadn't arrived yet, but looks fine with the G4 style anyway!

Well it went great!
Here is what I've noticed so far: Tail shifts a little bit more when spooling-up on the ground. No doubt because the 800 blades are heavier. Very stable and very comfortable in the air, apart from high speed into big gusts!! Autos so well I can finish a circuit in hold and still have ages to land. Auto bailout is almost as fast as before. Minimal difference in fuel consumption. Need to retune the tail, it kicks on punch-outs Need to retune the gov, approx 200rpm loss on punch-outs at all HS's. I'm running 1500, 1750, 1950 Happy!!
