I cut the arms with razor before I flew it and stripped a servo gear yesterday. Even with loose screw and no o rings. I cut it again to make a X in the horn splines still couldn't get it to jump splines holding bad servo output with pliers and pushing on servo horn by hand. Had to sand the splines smooth on the tip of the output to get it to jump with out using pliers. I still have to push a lot harder than the servo has power.

Before you worry about finding o rings to tighten back up what you just cut, try it out before you you send it into the air. I know some people don't have easy access to parts

Ahh, went back and saw that you are supposed to cut all the way through the horn to the screw hole. Now it makes sense.

Did you run new wires all the way back to the inside of the servo, or did you splice in somewhere? What size plugs do you use, and where did you get them? Or did you salvage the originals?

I've broken two different servo wires. One during a hard landing, the other wire was already frayed where the zip tie secures the wires to the frame, I officially snapped that frayed second wire during a gear change. They seem to fragile to splice but haven't tried yet.

Yeah I'm not very happy with the human hair wires and plugs on this heli. They Def could have gone with something a little more substantial

I had connectors laying around from other micro servos.

In the guy that read the first couple pages and then had an idea and skipped to the end, but here goes... Has anyone used heart shrink tubing with this mod?

I do not think the heat shrink would have enough give to allow the servo horn to slip.
The 180CFX forum reports that just slitting the horn and not having any o-rings works, just tighten the servo screw enough to the point the slit does not spread open.

Any luck with the shrink tube?

I have to run orings. If I don't the splines slip in flight. My number 3 orings don't last that long and are a pain to get on. Maybe I should try a #4? I think I'll just go with metal gears. Anyone crashing those and having luck with a solid arm?
