Default Scale Trex 500e

I have a friend at Wattflyer who is having issues with a hot motor in his 500e with a scale fuse (he is using a 5000mah 6s, as the weight is needed to balanced the heli). I suggested going to a 500mx, as he is definitely using a weaker motor. I also suggested going to something like a 1000kV motor, to bring the HS down, as to make it more of a proper scale flier (not that higher HS can't be flown scale) What would be a good setup here? Blades? Motor? He will still be going 6s, but I must say that the 5000mah pack certainly leaves a weight issue. Suggestions? I believe it's flybarred...I've asked a couple times but he hasn't really stated if it is or not, just that another 500 he has has is FBL and 500mx is installed, thus doesn't get hot.

How hot is hot ?

The last thread very similar to this appeared to be flying at high headspeed, and the motor turned out to be running at around 130F, which isn't really hot at all. Scale helis don't need a lot of power (around 50-60W/lb is plenty) or fast motors generally.

I run my 500 sized UH-1N as follows;

Savox 1300kV motor
5000mAh 25C 6s lipo
CC Ice 75
Spin 465mm asymetrical blades
95mm CF tail blades
1700rpm headspeed
Between 350 and 400W with peaks up to around 650W
360mAh / minute of flying
Motor runs around 55-60C in 30C ambient temps
ESC runs up to 95C (yes, too hot - usually cooler) as a logged (ie. internal ESC temp which is hotter than the casing measured temp) peak because the ESC is stuffed up inside a fully enclosed doghouse with zero ventilation

His motor was at 150 or 160. I gather you are not running 100% throttle to get that HS.

150-160F is only 65-77C, which will certainly feel hot to the finger, but it is not hot enough to get too worried about IMO. Around 120-140F would be ideal, but those temps are not excessive.

My motor is governed to about 89% to get 1700rpm. I would have preferred a 1200kV motor, but I got the 1300kV at the right price.

I gather a 10 t pinion is being used? I'll let him know so he knows roughly what a good setup is.

Thanjs for the input guys i went to the scorpion 3226 1400kv and was adv to use my same 85% throttle curve and i should get around 2200rpm at full battery decreasing down to about 2000 rpm which is a good ,scale feeling tame cyclic response. Also i was told by scorpion with their motor it will run alot more efficient and with more quality copper and only about 1/4 power being used ill be ok. Even they stated the 140f is not really hot but for the 35a 650w align i was running ita putting load on it that will cause more heat then necessary. I did notice the heli flies really really tame. With the lower kv ill just need to raise my IU 2 or 3 points to keep the HS i like now

I have never seen a 10T Mod 0.6 pinion, but perhaps they do exist. The smallest Mod 0.6 I could find was 12T, and that is what I am using.
