Default RCHN Pilot Proficiency Program

As 2015 has been dubbed the "year of the Pilot" Nick and Justin's recent or should I say continued fixation on new gear notwithstanding the hosts have developed the RCHN Pilot Proficiency Program PPP http://www.rchelination.com/rchn-pil...iency-program/ as an aide and guide to pilots wishing to persue a logical skill set progression. The program takes inspiration from, pays homage to and updates the original IRCHA PPP http://www.ircha.org/pilot-proficien...pilot-training

The program was introduced and explained on episode 170. http://www.rchelination.com/rchn-v-2...70-year-pilot/

The RCHN PPP web based app http://www.rchnppp.com has been developed to help pilots track their progress

I personally know a lot of time went into this program so far but in my opinion it is still a work in progress that could use some tweaking especially in the area of some of the maneuver descriptions for the sake of clarity and consistency throughout. Not sure how much time or energy the hosts have for this but I suspect it may depend on the communities demonstrated desire for this sort of thing.

The last couple months I've been filming community member Josh Moen's progress through level three at this point which should help with questions on what the maneuvers should look like. I'll get links to the videos shortly.

Soooooo, who's in?

Videos follow: Should have reserved a post for these sorry

Level One:
RC Heli Nation Pilot Proficiency Program Level 1 (10 min 47 sec)

Level Two:
RC Heli Nation Pilot Proficiency Program Level 2 (8 min 23 sec)

Level Three:
RC Heli Nation Pilot Proficiency Program Level 3 (8 min 35 sec)

If you're filming moves, please also touch base with these guys. They've got a ton of moves on their website with descriptions and videos of a lot of them:
http://rcheli.club/Moves/explorer

I agree that some of the descriptions are a little ambiguous, but the PPP is great fun to work on. I'm aiming to get to level 7, not to be at competition quality, but just to be able to physically pull off the moves.

I do think it's missing a lot of piro foundations. Slow piros early on really help nail your orientations, and them piro travel along straight lines, squares and circles set you up for stirring moves like piro flips later on.

The moves are being loaded onto rcheli.club
http://rcheli.club/moves/?tagid=46

Videos and descriptions aren't specific to the PPP, more generalized on how to do/learn the move, so you'll still have to reference the PPP list.

Agreed.

The rcheli club stuff is a great resource as well and we'll forward our clips to them.

Those videos are great Steve. I've loaded them onto rcheli.club Moves. I've also given them start and end times for each move, so that users don't have to drag through the clips to find particular bits.

Makes a total of 40 moves and 99 videos loaded for the PPP.

This is awesome to see, guys! Thanks for starting the thread, Steve and I must say the lack of published updates to the wording is ALL on me. It hasn't been for lack of listener suggestions, but like usual we overcommit ourselves around here. I've started on the update, but haven't finished it...

I'll keep working on it though! Thanks!

Hey Justin. I listen to your podcast. You all are the best. As far as what you're going to update on the PPP, would you indicate which level, perhaps even which moves got updated? Like a "new" or "updated" text should suffice. This way people won't need to download the entire program if only a particular level they care gets updated. Thanks.

Hey, bud...thanks for the kind words! The updates will be called out specifically in a firmware release notes kind of style. That way, you can just read through quickly and decide which ones you want to re-download.

I've checked out rcheli.club site. It's a great, great tool for keeping track of learning moves. The text description, illustration, and video examples are exactly what's needed to understand and perform the moves properly. +1 million to the people who create/maintain the site, and those who contribute.

Oh wow, rcheli.club has updated itself with PPP descriptions and a progress tracker.

It also looks to have grassroots moves on there too, somebody has been busy :-)

Cheers It's still a bit disorganized, but we're getting there.

The next level is up on YouTube.

RCHN PPP Level 4: Advanced Sport

Are you behind that site Richard? If so, could you drop me a pm, would like to give you a call sometime to chat about some ideas I had. Didn't realise you were also in the UK :-)

Phew, level 5 is up. I really struggled with the knife-edge piros, I just never bothered with them much before.

RCHN PPP Level 5: Basic 3D

BTW, I'm not counting these as actually doing the PPP. I'm just doing a run through of all levels to find any obvious missing skills and I thought it might be useful to record them. So far I think it's a pretty good test, but to pass the PPP I believe you need to do them IRL with someone to sign it off.

Yeah, they're not easy when you get to these levels are they :-D. I'm like you, the knife edge piro is evil, I can fly them on the sim now, but haven't plucked up the courage to try in real life yet.

RCHN PPP Level 6: Intermediate 3D

Some pretty ropey moves in there, but I'm enjoying practicing them. Never tried the Mobius before, not even sure if what I've done is correct.

I love having the proficiency lists. I am still working on getting the basics signed off because we don't spend a lot of time on it, but I love having a list of moves to try. I was having one great day and felt like I couldn' t do anything wrong so I started trying the knife edge piros and death rolls, and it's awesome. Just need to go back and fill in all the spaces between them lol. It's really cool to have a list of moves to challenge myself when I get bored.

I see what you mean now. The piro based moves are all in level 7, but you should be working on some of them earlier in the program. Most of them are hard enough to stay, but the piro 8s (upright and inverted) could be moved earlier to Advanced Sport or Basic 3D.

I'm not saying they should be. I love the program, very comprehensive! Level 7 is going to be a b*d with all the piro reverse directions though
