Beefed up F550 advice on build needed
I have F550 with fair bit of equipment on it including a 3axis gimbal for Sony RX100 camera. It weights 3.1kg or 6.8lb. I've put AXI motors on it and it flies great but I am limited to about 6:30min flight time on 4S 5800 battery. I understand that I am on the weight limit of the current configuration, so I am buying the Aimdroix extended alu arms and I am considering getting the DJI E600 tuned propulsion system and want to run it on one 6S 5,000mAh battery or the recently released Zippy 8,000mAh battery powering everything. Anyone has done this? What flight time can I expect??

He said he's getting about 14 minutes on the 8000 and it's stable as a rock. I'm sure that heavier Sony camera would welcome the E600 setup |

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding. I've been flying the drone for aerial photography business and been adding stuff and upgrades to the point where it I can't go any further with the current set up. Hope mainly for extra stability, longer flight times and more fluid and smooth video too. Reliability and simplicity is my goal too hence I want to run everything from one main battery. Hoping for about 10 minutes on 6s 5000 and maybe around 15 on 8000. Should be fun....

Re: Beefed up F550 advice on build needed
Hi, I have a DJI F550 streched to 660 with Fusano CF arm extensions, upgraded CF landing gear, and telemetry module and 2 axis gimbal with Walkera Ilook+ HD camera, and a Fatshark FPV video camera with separate video TX, I'm using the DJI E310 motor set with Turnigy Multistar 4S 10000 MaH batteries, and I get around 15 mins flight time.

Considering the amount of weight you're lugging around the short flight time you state sounds about right.
The E600 or E800 kits would allow you to pick up that weight with little effort. Either kit will take a 6s battery. But keep in mind you're about to pile on some extra weight. My 4s 5200 battery weighs a bit over a pound. A 6s battery is a bit more depending on capacity. It would not hurt to power the extras with another smaller battery and leave the 6s to just keeping it in the air. Reason being the more current you draw off the battery not being used to keep it in the air, is chewing in to your over all flight time. Like 04fxdwgi's son, I too use a smaller battery to power just the gimbal. That way I get a bit longer flight times and don't have to put step down regulators in line with the gimbal to power it off a battery who's voltage is way above the gimbal's input level. It's your call, of course, but when you reduce the electronics part count, it's less that can go wrong in flight. |
