John,

It's good to hear from you. How has life been treating you since the NATS in 1989?

The Kontronic ESC's especially coupled with the Jeti TX should be awesome plus the Futaba servos you mentioned are great and I would definitey consider them.

I only have 5 or 6 flights so far on my R5 but it's working quite well. The kit had a few little areas that needed finessing during the build but other than that I think it has a great possibility of being a long lasting enjoyable RC helicopter.

Here is a short clip of my R5 filmed this evening at our local club. I am really liking the Rail 606 blades. They really groove well for me.

Great to hear that the Rails work well as they are available locally as well.

The Power Jive will work but might make the heli tail heavy as it is lighter than the Kosmik or Scorpion ESC's. Even with the 3300 packs right up front and with a Jive it comes out tail heavy.

Looks like you are getting it dialed in Robert. I see you have no concern with pitching as shown by those low passes Rails it is then.

Vinger: I'm going to make a 160 kosmik purchase. Which one to go for? The cool kosmik (with fan and machined heat sink) seems like the way to go with the almost air tight R5, but what are your thoughts? Not sure if the fan is going to do much good without any inlet or exit holes in the fuse.

Or, use the cool kosmik (fan and machined heat sink) and just not use the fan if it makes the esc too thick for the R5.

Or, just use the smooth case (no heat sink) 160 kosmik?

Any of you guys flying the R5 logged any esc temperatures? Using Jeti Mezon esc's I set 100C as my esc temperature limit (per manufacturer) but rarely see anything over 75C

Re: ESC TEMPS - Averaging 170F.

I plan on cutting in a couple small NACA ducts to get some clean airflow into the front of the fuselage just haven't decided on the correct location yet.
