Default Two motors driving one gear

I'm looking at using two motors to drive one gear on a heli. Does anyone have any insight on how to set up the ESC's? Can I use a Y cable from the receiver to drive two ESC's? Or do I need an ESC that will drive two motors? I just don't understand the internal workings of ESC's enough to know how to set them up.

Any pointers to where I can learn more about ESC internal workings would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards, Roger
