Default Broken U-Shaped Engine Mount

Hey all,

I was doing some maintenance on my NX7 this weekend and found that the U-shaped, threaded engine mount bracket that screws into the bottom CF frame plate was broken into three pieces. It split at the locations of the two threaded holes at the bottom of the U shape.

After looking at the design a bit more, it's clearly because of Gaui's choice to use inadequate edge margin for those holes, but it got me to thinking whether this particular part even adds value to the heli assembly. Other than for the threaded holes on the four engine bolts (I can use nuts for that), why is it here?

Has anyone else run into this issue?

What did you do to fix it other than buy another part?

I would think it's there to stop the engine/clutch stack from moving left/right

I'm on my third U joint mount since the heli was released with no crashes. Sometimes it will crack around the screw holes for no reason. I think it is not beefy enough and definitely needs improvements. I now very carefully tighten the mounting screws to the engine and the frame which seems to make that u mount last longer.

By the way, I hope you got the white upgraded gears Josh told you about.

I read somewhere it cracks from stress because the casing on the engine isn't perfectly flat on that side so when you tighten it down it tries to bend the u shape mount. I added 4 small lock washers between the engine and u shape mount. Never had any issues

I've decided to forego the mount entirely, as I don't believe it plays any significant role. We'll see how it goes...

My kit came with the white gears, Heli$.

There is an updated U-Bracket from Empire Hobby that you can purchase; thicker part, more meat to correct this issue. Works great! No issues with mine since I put it on.

The bracket is to add support on the bottom plate and for added anti-engine rotation in the frame; being a narrow (1") frame design. After installing you have to make sure the bottom plate holes line up correctly with the U-Bracket, some hole filing might be necessary for proper alignment.

Ask JC for the part / part number as it is worth it. Don't believe it's listed on Empires site.

No sir;

you want pn: OR-NX7MM-US

$19.95- USD

That part is not listed on their site for some reason.

images showing stock vs new; new bolted on top of old, image shown did not have the bottom holes threaded yet.

Update:

I talked to JC and he told me that running the NX7 without the u-bracket would cause vibrations, so I aborted my attempt and waited for the new one to be delivered from Empire! Thanks for the help, JC!

It's definitely a much beefier part than the original and gives me confidence that it'll stay in once piece this time...

Justin, is this a std Gaui part, or something Empire have commissioned?
If so, is it only available through Empire?

Rob

Default Broken U-Shaped Engine Mount

Rob, it came in a package that has something like "Orion Mfg" on it. I don't recall the specifics, but it's definitely not a Gaui component.

Had my upgraded part delivered to the U.K. a few days ago.

Just need to get around building my kit now after 12 months in the box.😳

My stock one cracked again. JC referred me to allerc.com to get the after market u mount. You have to call since that u mount isn't on the website.
