Default Trex 600 pinion/MG selection and head upgrade Roban 700 size JR

Hey all,

Sorry if there is a similar thread with the same question but I can't find one specifically.

I'm using a Chaos 600E FBL air frame for a Roban 700 size JR.

I plan to use a Scorpion HKIII-4035-500 with a Castle Edge 120HV on 12S and looking for a target HS of about 1350ish calculated on MrMel HS calculator.

164t MG /12t pinion as described below. I need to mention straight cut gears are preferred as I plan to run the rotation opposite of stock. CCW instead of CW with the TR flipped.

I have the KDE universal main gear case :
https://www.amainhobbies.com/kde-dir...0-umgc/p210493

Wondering if this MG does in fact bolt to the above gear case. (I believe it does but want to be sure)
https://www.amainhobbies.com/kde-dir...mdgm07/p186592

And if this pinion will work on the Scorpion motor and is the correct pitch (mesh) for the above MG :
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Shaft_12T.html

Also wondering if it's worth finding/using an upgrade head assembly (prefer non DFC as it would mean cutting away more of the glass fuse)

Am I figuring this correctly or should I be looking for a different solution ?

Thanks

This main gear modulus M1.0: https://www.kdedirect.com/products/a...iant=883668483

Will work with your KDE hub

And

This pinion 12T M1.0 pinion for 6mm motor shaft:
https://www.amainhobbies.com/align-7...h70054/p179808

This is what I run on my 700 size MD500 with 600ESP mechanics which I believe are similar to your Chaos.

I run a 10s system with a 510 kv motor and this combo gives me about 1325 rpm at 85% ESC

There is a 11T and 13T pinion option.

Or...

These main gears also M1.0 but slant:
https://www.amainhobbies.com/search?...+118+main+gear

With this hub:
http://www.aligntrexstore.com/600PRO...200_p_717.html

And this 6mm motor shaft 12T slant pinion:

Hope that helps

Nice ! Thank you Trooper.

The Chaos 600 (Phoenixtech 600 and Flasher 600 are literally the exact same just branded differently) is pretty much a dead knock off of the 600ESP. My Chaos came with a lower 3rd main shaft bearing block in a Phoenixtech bag. The troubling thing about some of these Align parts is the discontinuing of some of them.

Ever had any problems with the gears you're using in your MD500 ?

In my 600 scale MD500E I was running the standard 170 tooth M.8 main gear with no problems. She flew great. Then I tried an Align 188 tooth slant drive because I had read slant drives are quieter...it stripped almost immediately...and then I read about all the people that had the same issue. Lesson learned.

For my 700 scale MD500E I started with the 170T main gear, it striped too but I believe it was because I was swinging 700mm blades and I flew it a bit too hard and wasn't managing my collective.

The KDE 164T main gear is a fair bit more robust than the Align so you may find success with it if your using 600mm blades and a sport flying style.

With the M1.0 slant main gear I find it much quieter and, by design, able to handle the longer blades/rotor loads. I feel much more confident in this setup than before. Also, I'm using a 510KV motor because I had one here hence the ESC running in the 80-85% range.

I tried running your numbers through the CC with your 44.4v (12s system)

- 1350rpm
- 500kv motor
- 12T pinion
- 164T MG (KDE)
= 92.3% ESC

A 400kv motor ( or thereabouts) would give you 1350rpm and 91% ESC with the 118T M1.0 MG and 11T pinion in your 12s system.

Here's a breakdown of the combinations of gears and pinions with the resulting speeds using the Castle Creations program using my heli's 10s setup

And here is a capture of the setup using an online calculator which seems to be very close to the actual numbers I get from the CC.

And here is a capture of my flight around the backyard with a new swash...
